New polling conducted on behalf of Tennesseans for Student Success by VictoryPhones reported that Metro Councilmember Freddie O’Connell leads the Nashville mayoral race with 25.4 percent of the vote.
Trailing O’Connell in the poll is Alice Rolli (18.8 percent), Matt Wiltshire (14.6 percent), Jeff Yarbro (13.1 percent), Heidi Campbell (5.9 percent), Sharon Hurt (3.6 percent), Vivian Wilhoite (3.4 percent), and Fran Bush (0.8 percent).
Meanwhile, 14.5 percent of respondents said they would vote for a different individual in the race outside of the current 12 candidates.
The poll, conducted from July 25-27, surveyed a total of 500 voters in Nashville and has a margin of error of 4.38 percent.
O’Connell’s lead in this poll is notable compared to an earlier poll conducted by the same institution in May, where he came in third place at 15.6 percent – trailing Campbell (21.9 percent) and Yarbro (17 percent).
Another recent poll conducted by Washington-based GBAO Strategies on behalf of the Tennessee Laborers PAC through July 17-19 showed O’Connell (pictured above) leading the field of mayoral candidates with 21 percent of the vote while 23 percent of respondents answered “undecided.”
In terms of fundraising, O’Connell’s pre-general campaign financial disclosure statement reports that he has a total of $74,467 cash on hand – leading Rolli’s reported $51,570 on hand but trailing both Wiltshire’s reported $183,652 and Yarbro’s $112,562 on hand.
O’Connell, who currently serves as a member of the Metro Nashville Council, describes himself as the “only truly progressive candidate for Mayor.”
The 2023 Metro Nashville General Election, including the Tennessee House District 51 Special Primary and Tennessee House District 52 Special General, will occur Thursday. If necessary, a runoff election is scheduled for September 14.
A total of 57,461 individuals – approximately 11.56 percent of the total registered voters in Davidson County – casted a vote during the early voting period, which ran from July 14 to July 29, as previously reported by The Tennessee Star.

If you did not early vote, please go out and VOTE NOW! Polling is not always accurate (as we all know). Alice Rolli NEEDS your vote. This is not a huge election turnout so every vote is important. If this thing is decided by only a couple of hundred votes then the Repubs will have no one to blame but themselves.
By the time Freddie is done Nashville will make San Fran and LA look like paradise.
Just when you think it could not be worse.
Freddie gave us outrageous spending, a 34% property tax hike, protests and scooters. Look for years of more spending downtown with him. He’s also against the fairgrounds racetrack, which should have been approved already.
Dimmercrap I presume.
nashville will soon look just like portland. and voters have only themselves to blame
Looks like Nashville is intent on becoming the craphole of the south.
