O’Reilly Warns Ingraham: The Left Is ‘Going to Come After You’

Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly warned LifeZette editor-in-chief Laura Ingraham that the far-left is “going to come after you” because the talk show landscape is a “hateful arena where the truth doesn’t matter,” during an interview Wednesday on “The Laura Ingraham Show.” O’Reilly, who left the network in April amid sexual harassment claims, said Ingraham…

Avast! It’s International Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day!

Shiver me timbers, mateys – it’s International Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day! How better to celebrate than to head on over to your nearest participating Long John Silvers and get yourself a Deep Fried Twinkie? We first heard about Talk Like a Pirate Day back in 2002. But it turns out, its history stretches way back before the turn of the century. The founders of this fun observance, The Pirate Guys, Ol’ Chumbucket and Cap’n Slappy (aka John Baur and Mark Summers) tell the tale of how the day came to be on their website, talklikeapirate.com. “Once upon a time,” they write, “On June 6, 1995, to be precise – we were playing racquetball, not well but gamely.” They continue: It wasn’t our intention to become “the pirate guys.” Truth to tell, it wasn’t really our intention to become anything, except perhaps a tad thinner and healthier, and if you could see our photos, you’d know how THAT turned out. As we flailed away, we called out friendly encouragement to each other -“Damn, you bastard!” and “Oh, jeez, my hamstring!” for instance – as shots caromed away, unimpeded by our wildly swung rackets. On this day, for reasons we still don’t quite understand, we started…

Game of Thrones Season 7 Recap (SPOILERS)

It’s almost hard to talk about Game Of Thrones in anything resembling a succinct manner these days. The show is so expansive, and the fans are so deeply involved with theories, that even the smallest of points seem to require hours of debate. Therefore, recapping an entire season seems frankly exhausting. But I’m going to try it out here by focusing on some of the biggest moments, both experienced and yet to come. Obviously, many spoilers follow.   The Coolest Moments Arya Meets Nymeria – Pretty much all Thrones fans want more of the direwolves, and Arya’s had been missing for more or less the entire duration of the show. In the books, there are occasional references to an unusually intelligent wolf leading a giant pack, and it’s assumed that it’s Nymeria. Early in this season, Arya collided with some form of this mini-narrative, and came face-to-face with her old Direwolf, Nymeria. Even cooler: Nymeria refused the offer to reunite and took off on her own path, prompting Arya to sadly (but also approvingly?) gasp, “that’s not you.” It’s actually kind of sad – but the callback behind it was fantastic. It had to do with Ned Stark, who…

Tech Company Fights for Parental Control of Video Entertainment

“Watch movies and TV however the BLEEP you want.” That is the motto of a modern technological David taking on corporate Goliaths. VidAngel Inc. offers filtering of certain stream-on-demand media, said CEO Neal Harmon. Consumers have the option of removing objectionable content while watching Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Amazon Channels, all from the comfort of their home. The technology can remove obscene language, nudity and violence. By age 18, a youth has seen 16,000 murders on movies and TV, according to a 1998 study titled “Psychiatric Effects of Media Violence” by the American Psychological Association, as reported on a VidAngel promo video. Parents don’t have to worry about covering their children’s eyes or covering their ears. Consumers can filter the streaming videos through the VidAngel app on most devices, Harmon said. Does that degree of parental control sound like a good idea? Some media giants do not think so. VidAngel has been locked in a legal battle with Disney, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox and Lucasfilm for more than a year. The fight is uphill at this point as the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Aug. 24 denied the company’s appeal of a preliminary injunction that was…

How to Become ‘Crisis Fit’

Tennessee Star

Like so many Americans, my heart truly goes out to the victims of Harvey, and my admiration goes out to the amazing rescuers. The scope of this disaster is unprecedented, and thankfully the outpouring of support has been overwhelming. The ordeal is hardly over for Houston and adjoining areas, with new storms like Irma barreling toward us. Watching a TV image of a displaced person resting in a shelter got me thinking. Once they have gotten the rest they need, they will then need to maintain or build their physical conditioning. I then considered how strikingly out of condition the average American is, and how it can potentially affect their survivability during a crisis, or their ability to rescue another human being. It has been good to witness the resurgence in “functional” training, led by CrossFit, Spartan Races, progressive calisthenics, heavy barbell work, and kettlebell training, among so many others. Yet there still exists a great mass of deconditioned Americans. They are unlikely to fare well in a crisis – any crisis. I say “any” for a reason: it is far more common for someone to succumb to a self-created crisis, formed by poor sleep, nutrition, exercise, and stress habits than it is…

‘Which Fitness Path Should I Choose?’

Tennessee Star

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –  I took the one less traveled by And that has made all the difference. ~ Robert Frost The Road Not Taken   There are many ways to get fit. Many of these ways are not attractive – at least not to me. Long, boring cardio, burpees till you puke… You get the idea. There are new, trendy, fitness routines coming out all the time. Some are good, and some are outright ridiculous. One can be led to believe that if they’re not doing the latest craze, they’ll be left in the dust. This turns off many who would otherwise find their road to fitness: “If I need to go through all of this $%#! to attain health, count me out!” Fitness choices include: weightlifting (bodybuilding, Olympic lifting, powerlifting), bodyweight training (progressive calisthenics), kettlebells, bands, awkward object lifting, long “steady-state” cardio, high-intensity interval training (H.I.I.T.), yoga, Pilates, barre, Zumba, and so many more. Though I enjoy some of these disciplines, many people do not. And fortunately, that’s okay. There are many roads to fitness, including less regimented ones than those listed above. Activity of almost any kind – particularly in the great outdoors – is beneficial, as…

Haslam’s brother, Jimmy, is owner of the Cleveland Browns in addition to being CEO of the Pilot Flying J chain of gas stations and convenience stores. Matheny, who is running for Congress in the Sixth Congressional District, posted the following on Facebook Tuesday morning along with a photo of Cleveland Browns players taking a knee at a game Monday evening. A dozen players were reported to have taken a knee. Governor Haslam, your family owns the Cleveland Browns. Would you please use your influence to put an immediate stop to the behavior displayed in the NFL last night. These individuals who disrespected our flag and anthem should be returned to normal jobs and help build our community. Their actions only set poor examples for our youth to follow-all this in a time when we need national cohesion worse than ever. Would the citizens of Tennessee, Ohio and the rest of the country please DEMAND this behavior stop. We cannot let public figures continue to get away with…

Is a ‘Program’ Necessary to Get Fit?

Tennessee Star

“I mistrust all systematizers and I avoid them”   ~ Friedrich Nietzsche It’s long been assumed by most fitness enthusiasts that in order to train effectively, one must follow a “program.” But is this really true? Now understand, I am a Certified Personal Trainer, and I make my living primarily by having clients follow one kind of program or another. So, yes, you can say I’m biased. Nevertheless, as in all things, we should not blindly move forward, but do so with our eyes wide open. After all, as Socrates once said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” Seeing a need to have someone show us how to work a program means having the humility to admit we don’t really know how to do it on our own. There’s wisdom in that. Yet ultimately, I believe what we should seek are principles more than programs. In fact, a good program is basically a collection of principles. Principles are from God, and on a certain level, can be innately understood by human beings. They are the laws of the universe, such as gravity. When we follow natural laws, things go well for us, and when we don’t, well… Programs are…

Fans in Nashville Say Goodbye To Country Music Legend Glen Campbell

NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Fans stopped by a memorial Wednesday at the Country Music Hall of Fame to say goodbye to country artist Glen Campbell, who died Tuesday at age 81. A table with flowers and a condolence book for people to sign was set up in the rotunda near Campbell’s Hall of Fame plaque. “We used to listen to him in the 70s,” said Ellis Sharadin, who was there with his wife, Rosemarie. The couple is on vacation from Yorktown, Virginia. Sharadin named the 1975 smash hit “Rhinestone Cowboy” as one of his favorite Campbell songs. Paige Lashlee of Tullahoma, Tennessee, said she grew up listening to Campbell’s music and watching his variety show. Campbell was a gifted guitarist, which many took for granted because he was known mostly known for his voice, she said. Her husband, Frank, said Campbell “had a style, and of course girls loved him.” Joni Bertram, visiting Nashville from Vermont, also said she grew up listening to Campbell. “Mostly because we had to,” chimed in her younger brother, Mark Green, who lives in Massachusetts. Their mom was a huge country music fan and exposed her children to her favorite tunes. Even though they had little…
