The recent revelation that the Biden administration has arranged for more than 380,000 illegal immigrants to fly into the United States, primarily to Florida and Texas, comes as Republicans in Congress demand answers about American airports being used to house them.
A Monday analysis of illegal immigrant flights by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found 386,000 have been allowed to enter the country illegally through airports by the Biden administration. CIS found the majority of illegal immigrants chose Florida airports as their destination.
Utilizing Department of Homeland Security (DHS) resources obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) combined with publicly available materials, CIS determined the majority of illegal immigrants arriving in U.S. airports are from Cuba, Venezuela and Haiti.
They additionally reported that Florida and Texas, while often where the immigrants arrive in the country, may not be the final destination of most illegal immigrants flown into the country by the Biden administration.
The revelation came as a number of Republican congressmen continue demanding answers from the Biden administration and various federal agencies about the illegal immigrants, including potential terrorism suspects, who continue to be housed in airports.
Almost two dozen House Republicans demanded answers from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) over the airport housing plan in March.
Among questions about the destination of illegal immigrants and costs associated with the program, the Republicans expressed concerns of “illegal immigrants on the terrorist watch list who could be flown into cities across the United States” by the Biden administration.
The previous month, Representative John Rose (R-TN-06) was among the 36 House Republicans who urged the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate “within the bound of the law” and keep airports “dedicated to their primary functions of facilitating air travel and commerce” in a letter.
They noted, “Never before in the history of American aviation has the FAA had to approve the use of airport facilities to house illegal aliens.”
Republicans on the Senate Commerce Committee, led by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), similarly confirmed the expansion of their investigation into the illegal immigrants in airports in March, when they declared the airport housing solution is “especially inappropriate” due to “the lack of vetting these illegal aliens undergo when entering the country.”
Immigration experts warn that the unprecedented rise in illegal immigration under the Biden administration will require a curtailment of both legal and illegal immigration for the American social fabric to recover from the new arrivals.
“We actually are pretty good at assimilating newcomers, but at some point It doesn’t really work very well,” said CIS Executive Director Mark Kriskorian during a February appearance on The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
