President Donald Trump on Tuesday celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold bans on biological men competing in women’s sports in Idaho and West Virginia.
“BIG WIN: The United States Supreme Court just RULED AGAINST MEN PLAYING IN WOMEN’S SPORTS. Wow! That takes that ridiculous situation off the table!!!” he posted on Truth Social.
The Court ruled 6-3 that maintaining separate men’s and women’s sports was permitted under Title IX. Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh authored the majority opinion.
The ruling was a win for conservatives, who have secured bans in 27 states through state law and two more through state regulations.
In reaction to the ruling, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said the nation’s highest court “upheld a common sense law.”
“Because states like Oklahoma enacted the Save Women’s Sports Act, girls all across the country are protected in the locker room and get to compete on a level playing field,” he said.
On the other side, Rep. Pramila Jayapal said, “The Supreme Court’s ruling to allow states to ban trans kids from playing in sports is discriminatory and opens the door to incredibly invasive examinations of children to determine who can play on what team.”
“All of our kids deserve to play sports. This decision targets a tiny population of athletes and further emboldens Republicans’ anti-trans crusade,” she added.
