Arizona Man Convicted for Illegally Voting in 2020 Election

A felon in Arizona has been sentenced to six months in prison after illegally voting in the 2020 election.

“Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced that Victor Manuel Aguirre, age 47, of Sahuarita, was convicted and sentenced to prison for illegally casting a ballot in the 2020 General Election on August 29, 2022,” according to a Wednesday release from Brnovich’s office.

Aguirre pleaded guilty to the rap, which stems from his registering to vote from prison in 2020.

Felons are not permitted to vote in Arizona, unless they have gone through a formal process of having their voting rights restored.

“Aguirre had been charged by a State Grand Jury in August of 2021, which alleged that Aguirre falsely completed a voter registration form while he was an inmate in the Pima County Jail in September of 2020,” the press release said. “Aguirre completed a registration form indicating that he had not been convicted of a felony or that his rights had been restored. Aguirre, however, had previously been convicted of felony offenses and had not had his rights restored.”

The Pima County Recorder was allegedly unaware of Aguirre’s status as a felon.

The release acknowledged that his vote was indeed counted in the 2020 results.

President Joe Biden won Arizona by just 11,000 votes in 2020, and the state has been marred by allegations of voter fraud ever since.

The state is still battling with the credibility of its election process after the discovery of anomalies in some counties in the recent 2022 primary elections.

As reported by The Arizona Sun Times, Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer was censured in August by the Executive Guidance Committee of the Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC) over those anomalies.

Included in the resolution to censure Richer were several statements he made regarding the 2020 election in Arizona, wherein he claimed there was no voter fraud.

“Nobody stole Maricopa County’s election,” Richer insisted. “Elections in Maricopa County aren’t rigged.”

He also said no “serious mishaps or anomalies” occurred in 2020.

“I’m embarrassed listening to my party concoct the most outlandish theories (Chinese ballots!) to avoid accepting the reality: we lost the top two races in Arizona,” he said.
