Biden DHS Rewards Sanctuary Cities, NGOs with $290 Million

The Biden Administration’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded over $290 million in taxpayer money to various “sanctuary cities,” as well as pro-illegal alien non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

As reported by Breitbart, the nearly $300 million was taken from the Shelter and Services Program (SSP), a federal initiative that is funded by the U.S. Congress. The money was divided among 34 different cities, NGOs, and other entities.

Sanctuary cities are localities that openly defy federal immigration law to provide a safe harbor for illegals. San Diego, California is set to receive over $15 million, while Chicago will be given over $10.5 million, and Denver, Colorado will receive at least $8.6 million. The entire state of Illinois, which has declared itself a “sanctuary state,” will receive a total of $19.4 million. The highest share will go to New York City, which is receiving approximately $104 million.

Several of the NGOs, which actively assist illegals with coming into the country and resettling in destinations of their choice, include Catholic Charities, which will get $24 million, and the World Hunger Ecumenical Arizona Task Force (WHEAT), which is set to receive $15.5 million.

The rewarding of federal funds to sanctuary cities and pro-open border NGOs first came under scrutiny last month, when Congressmen Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Lance Gooden (R-Texas) demanded from the Biden Administration a full accounting of federal funds being handed out to such localities and entities.

“The surge of illegal immigration, fueled in part by NGOs like those on the [Emergency Food and Shelter Program] National Board is unsustainable and unfair to law-abiding citizens and immigrants alike,” said Congressman Gooden.
