Biden Says He Opposes NAFTA Despite Voting for it, Won’t Give Trump Credit for USMCA

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said the trade deal President Donald Trump signed in 2018 is better than the trade deal he voted for in 1993 as a senator.

Biden admitted that the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) was better than the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in an interview with CNN anchor Jake Tapper that aired Thursday. However, he refused to give Trump credit for the USMCA instead saying the House of Representatives was primarily responsible.

“It is better than NAFTA,” Biden told Tapper.

“But look what the overall trade policy has done even with NAFTA. We now have this gigantic deficit in trade with Mexico. Not because NAFTA wasn’t made better, but because the overall trade policy and how he deals with it made everything worse.”

Former President Barack Obama and Biden campaigned in 2008 on renegotiating NAFTA, but did not do so during their term, The New York Times reported. Biden voted for NAFTA in November 1993.

“He renegotiated NAFTA and you didn’t,” Tapper said.

Yes, Every Kid

Biden responded, “Because we had a Republican congress that didn’t go along with us renegotiating it.”

Democrats held majorities in both the House and Senate between 2009 and 2011. The Obama administration said it was uninterested in renegotiating NAFTA in 2009, according to The Times.

The question is: does he REALLY oppose NAFTA? I hope so, but I fear that Biden secretly still supports it. It will be really hard choosing between Trump and Biden as neither nominee was my choice.

Did Mr. Biden require a teleprompter to be reminded that he voted for NAFTA? I was very much opposed to that sell out.

I remember back in the early 90’s when the “Halloween Coalition” opposed NAFTA, Ross Perot, Ralph Nader, Jesse Jackson and Pat Buchanan. Also, most of the rank and file of the Democratic Party opposed it too. George H.W. Bush and other establishment Republicans promoted it, but they needed a globalist Democrat as President. So Daddy Bush handed off to his “step-son” Bill Clinton, as Barbara Bush described him. He was barely able to get enough Democrats to support the globalist sellout, including Joe Biden. So now, long time globalist, Joe Biden, is a new convert to America First? Yeah, sure!

Trump has a very long record of being on the America First side which also included being against global interventionist wars. For example, go on You Tube and search Donald Trump on Oprah Winfrey show interview in 1988. Much of the Democratic Party then was also anti war, but now their leaders oppose Trump bringing our troops home. The few who agree, Tulsi Gabbard, a presidential candidate who wrecked Kamala Harris in the debate, were not even invited to attend, much less speak, at their convention. The Democrats are globalist and pro war now selling out the middle class and using their cons, daughters, husbands and wives as cannon fodder abroad.
