Live from Music Row, Wednesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed the original all-star panelist Crom Carmichael to the studio for another edition of Crom’s Crommentary.
CROM CARMICHAEL:
Let me just kind of look at what’s going on here, and try to kind of make some sense of it. A headline in this morning’s Wall Street Journal: “U.K. Seeks to Calm Investors over Clash Between Inflation Fight and Truss Tax Cuts.” And this is in the World section of The Wall Street Journal.
And The Wall Street Journal, sometimes their reporting is off, not in the opinion section. Sometimes it’s pretty good and sometimes it’s just very Left, but it’s always extremely well written.
It’s a little bit like the mayor of New York’s suits, which always look beautiful. Regardless of what he says, he looks fabulous. The Wall Street Journal section, outside the opinion page, the grammar is fantastic.
But they go on to argue that the markets in Great Britain are all riled up over Truss’ tax cuts. Of course, they were all riled up before Truss was appointed. That’s why Boris Johnson had to resign, because the economy in Great Britain is an absolute mess.
Inflation is going through the roof. Energy prices are going through the roof. They’re looking at all kinds of shortages. It’s really quite a mess. And so The Wall Street Journal’s reaction to that is anything that reduces the power of government, riles the markets, and that’s a terrible thing.
Then there’s this headline, and this is in the World section: “Europe Investigates Unexplained Leaks in the Nord Stream 2 Gas Pipelines.” Well, there are now leaks that just all of a sudden appeared.
The head of Poland has called it sabotage, has come out and said that this is not … The Wall Street Journal refers to it as an incident, I suppose that’s what you could call it. But something caused it. And it was either something that was natural, it was either a defect or it was sabotage.
The head of Poland says it is sabotage, and that they are now investigating to determine what the cause was. If it was sabotage, then the question is, who are the saboteurs? Were they related to any government?
And the environmental effect of these leaks is absolutely catastrophic because of the amount of methane that is being released into the oceans up there. The amount of ocean life that’s going to be killed from this will be catastrophic.
But the leaks are terrible. And if it was sabotaged, and whoever did it, and if it was supported by any government, whatever government did it, is a problem, given the tenderness in the world between the Soviet Union of Russia and Putin and the rest of the world.
There was also another story that the British snubbed Putin and Russia, which I suppose you could argue is appropriate. But if you’re trying to get Putin to agree to do something, when you try to snub him completely and his entire country regarding the death of the Queen, North Korea was not even snubbed.
If you’re going to allow North Korea to send people to Great Britain to honor the Queen and you’re not going to allow Russia to send a single person and make it as clear as you can, how much poking of the bear is appropriate.
And I go back to what Robert Gates said in his book when he said in his experience in government, which had spanned over 35 years, he had never seen Joe Biden either as a senator or as a vice president, he’d never seen him on the right side of a foreign policy decision.
So, I am very concerned that all of these things that are happening around the world – you also had in Italy a very conservative, limited government person who was elected to Italy to the head of the Italian government.
Now, of course, the Italian government, because of the way they’re organized and their constitution, they change out the heads of their government about as often as Imelda Marcos changed her shoes. So how long she lasts [is the question].
But the point that a person who has been in her campaign was pro-family, and against the size of government and against the wokeness of the Left, that she was able to win. And that itself is provocative to the Left.
And so they then respond by calling her all kinds of names rather than trying to dig into what the voters saw in her that caused them to vote for her. I look at what’s going on here. I do think that the polls have turned against the Democrats in the midterms.
I think that Biden is aware of that. And I think that Biden is willing to risk many things, including a larger war, simply based on his own historic mistakes in foreign policy.
And so when I look at the world today, I don’t see something that makes me feel that we’re heading in the right direction. I believe 75 percent of the American people polled say that we’re heading in the wrong direction.
And if the White House polling shows that he’s going to lose the House and the Senate, my concern is that he’s willing to take enormous risks to try to create a so-called October surprise, to try to sway the elections in the Democrats’ favor, even if it might be catastrophic in its results.
