Live from Music Row, Wednesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed the original all-star panelist Crom Carmichael to the studio for another edition of Crom’s Crommentary.
CROM CARMICHAEL:
Michael, we had a tragedy in Memphis with the terrible kidnapping and murder of Eliza Fletcher. And by all accounts, Eliza Fletcher was an absolutely stupendous, wonderful person. She was 34. She was a mother of two or three children. She was a teacher.
Her family is quite wealthy, and so she could do anything she wants to do, but instead, she chose to teach. Apparently, she was a marathon runner, so she trains early in the morning, and that was when she was abducted and killed. It’s a terrible loss and a terrible, terrible thing that happened.
But what is interesting is that, when you listen to people opine on it, everyone is justifiably upset with our justice system and the fact that this murderer had gotten out of prison earlier than his previous prison sentence, because he’s a very violent person and that he shouldn’t have gotten out early.
And if he hadn’t gotten out early, then Eliza Fletcher would be alive today. And all those things are true. But if you look across our country today, we have just unbelievable random violence all across our country, and it’s especially true in minority communities.
And to listen to the Left, it doesn’t even happen. To listen to the Left, the violence in our minority communities just simply doesn’t exist. It’s kind of like when Biden says our border is secure. We all know our border is not secure, and we all know that there’s terrible, terrible violence in our minority communities.
Now, when we talk about the justice system not keeping people in prison, and we need to build more prisons and things like this, if that’s what’s necessary, what we don’t do is talk about what are the circumstances that lead to this massive epidemic of just random violence and people acting like savages and animals, which is exactly what this murderer had been. He had grown into that.
And so this is not in any way to try to support him. He’s a terrible human being and deserves whatever penalty he gets, assuming that he is convicted and found guilty. The evidence that they say they have with DNA and whatnot seems to be quite overwhelming.
But what nobody’s talking about is, if you think of a company – you’re familiar with the term “sales funnel.” And that’s where you have perhaps 500 leads, and you put them in the funnel. And then you sort those leads through the funnel by calling on them and finding out their level of interest, and then pitching them on your product and one thing or another.
And then at the bottom of the funnel, it results in sales. Well, we as a society, and the Left in particular actually likes the funnel to be exactly the way it is for lower-income minority communities. They like it when black and Hispanic families have uneducated children who are wards of the state, who have no choice but to live off of government because they have been so poorly educated.
And our social system creates policies and creates so much mayhem, and feeds a welfare system where it says, if you are a mother and you have children, you can’t be married and you cannot work, and we’ll give you money to live in that circumstance. And the children that are raised in those circumstances are terribly educated and many of them grow into violent human beings.
And so we’re going to have to address the top of the funnel, Michael. And if we don’t do that, then we’re going to have more of the terrible situations that happened in Memphis and we’re going to continue to have the terrible violence in our black and Hispanic communities.
