In an exclusive statement provided to The Tennessee Star, Beth Harwell, the former Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives and candidate in the Republican primary for Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District seat, announced that she has raised nearly $350,000 in the five weeks since entering the race.
“I am proud to have the support of so many Tennesseans as we campaign to bring some common sense to Washington.” she said. “We need someone in Congress who knows the needs of Tennessee and will fight to bring back American greatness. I intend to do just that.”
Harwell officially entered the race on February 25 and filed her candidate paperwork with the Federal Election Commission the day prior, February 24.
The campaign statement said that 98 percent of contributions came from within the state of Tennessee.
The campaign also said, “Beth is the conservative leader that will take our Tennessee values to Washington. It is clear from the support Beth has seen across the district that she is the best choice to represent Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District in Washington.”
Harwell’s donations come during the January 1–March 31 FEC first-quarter reporting period. Her report, as well as the reports of other candidates in the field, will be posted publicly by the FEC in the near future.
The Star previously reported that Harwell has been endorsed by two national Republican women’s political action committees, VIEWPAC and Maggie’s List. Both organizations are dedicated to electing Republican women to office nationwide.
Harwell was the first female to attain the Speaker of the House position in Tennesse. Also, she served as chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party. Her tenure at the state party saw Republicans capture a majority in the state senate for the first time in nearly 150 years. Harwell also served as Tennessee House Republican Caucus Whip and Campaign Committee Chair. During her time in those positions, Republicans won and held the majority in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
After leaving state office, Harwell was tapped by the Trump administration to serve on the Tennessee Valley Authority Board of Directors, a position she still serves in.
The 5th Congressional District consists of parts of Davidson County, Williamson County, Wilson County, and all of Maury County, Marshall County and Lewis County.
The Republican primary is scheduled to take place on August 4.

Ogles 2022
Not impressed with her record in state government. She is too “moderate” for my taste. Ogles is a true conservative but is he going to be able to contend with the deep pockets of whoever it is funding Harwell?
Ogles talks conservative but governs like a liberal. Raised taxes, huge deficit spending, buys himself a new SUV and furniture from county funds.
If Ogles doesnt raise $$ and turn out the vote, we’ll be stuck with this RINO

Does anyone know if Andy is still running for Congress? He took his time in deciding to whether to run. He decided to run with as little fanfare as possible. Now, NOTHING except a guy at the Williamson Families PAC Kick-Off at The Factory wearing a “Ogles For Congress” shirt handing out “Ogles For Congress” paper badges. I don’t think that will be enough to get that 35% of the vote for you Andy.
