Former U.S. Representative Jim Renacci (R-OH-16), who now chairs American Greatness PAC, on Thursday castigated the Biden administration for its recent attacks on pro-Trump Republicans as an “extreme threat” to American governance.
Renacci lamented the White House’s reprehension toward its political opponents and asserted that the only danger posed by the MAGA [Make America Great Again] movement was to the president’s own electoral prospects.
“Sadly today Joe Biden and his liberal supporters continue to show they are out of touch with Americans and are looking to create more divide,” the former legislator said in a statement. “The only threat MAGA Republicans offer to Joe Biden, is the threat of removing him from office in 2024. MAGA Republicans are part of the true soul of the nation.”
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre characterized the strong faction of the Republican Party that remains loyal to former President Donald Trump as unconcerned with the rule of law and with citizens’ rights.
“The president thinks that there is an extremist threat to our democracy,” Jean-Pierre said. “The president has been [as] clear as he can be on that particular piece when we talk about our democracy, when we talk about our freedoms. The way that he sees is [that] the MAGA Republicans are the most energized part of the Republican Party [and] this is an extreme threat to our democracy.”
The press secretary made her remarks when asked whether Biden would discuss the president specifically in a Thursday-night oration on “the soul of America.” Jean-Pierre insisted the gravity of the problems Biden believes Trump supporters pose for the nation behoove him to be frank about them.
“They just don’t respect the rule of law,” she declared. “You’ve heard that from the president. And, you know, they are pursuing an agenda that takes away people’s rights…. This is what the president said yesterday. And that’s what he’s going to continue to say.”
To Renacci, this rhetoric smacks of desperation for a president with a radically leftist reputation and low approval ratings. According to a July Morning Consult poll, Biden is 23 percentage points underwater in terms of favorability in the Buckeye State.
“Biden’s low approval ratings and terrible policies are sending droves of independent voters and some Democrats running from his party,” Renacci said. “The midterm elections in swing states like Ohio will show his administration where the pulse and soul of this nation is. MAGA policies work. Biden policies are bringing this nation to a grinding halt.”
