In his bid to replace retiring Representative Charles Sargent (R-Franklin), Gino Bulso, an attorney in private practice for more than 30 years, filed his completed nominating petition Friday. The filing qualified him to appear on the ballot August 2 for the Republican primary represent the people of the 61st State House district that includes Brentwood, north Franklin, and Grassland in the northern part of Williamson County.
“We could not have chosen a better place to live and raise our family,” Bulso said in a statement, adding:
It is easy to understand why so many families fall in love with the quality of life and exceptional schools we have in this community. Our challenge now is to preserve what makes Williamson County such a special place. Our crowded roads and classrooms, for example, are serious issues that require immediate attention. Fixing these problems is a big part of why I am running for the State House in District 61.
Election rules state that candidates must file a completed petition signed by at least 25 residents eligible to vote in the election on or before April 5. Bulso’s petition contained the maximum 50 signatures permitted.
A graduate of Emory University Law School, Bulso has practiced law since 1986 in Tennessee.
Currently a partner with the Nashville based law firm Leader, Bulso, and Nolan, “Gino has obtained judgments and settlements on behalf of the firm’s clients totalling in excess of $100 million,” according to the firm’s website:
Gino has served as counsel in several precedent-setting cases before the Supreme Court of Tennessee. He has also handled numerous cases before the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eleventh Circuits. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. His primary areas of trial and appellate practice include business litigation, franchise litigation, intellectual property litigation and securities litigation.
He is also a board member of the St. Thomas More Society of Middle Tennessee.
Gino and his wife, Kathy, have lived in Brentwood for over 20 years and raised all five of their children there.
The political newcomer faces a crowded field of Republicans including: Rebecca Anne Burke, Jeff Ford, Bobby Hullett, and Brandon Ogles.
Seems like a good citizen and a fine lawyer, but is he a liberal, centrist, tepid conservative, or a conservative? Rebecca Burke has established her conservative bona fides by her work on the State Executive Committee leading the fight to close Republican Primaries with impassioned oratory. Further, it’s hard to imagine a more energetic conservative than Rebecca. As I approach the August Primary the test will be, “nice guy/gal, and is foursquare in favor of apple pie and the Amercan way, but is there hard evidence that he/she is more energetically conservative than Rebecca Burke?”

But seriously, this is GREAT news! We citizens have an amazing opportunity to replace a bunch of the gas tax supporting Legislators! We must support these candidates, with our time, our money and our votes!
