Ilhan Omar Paid $250K in Campaign Funds to Alleged Boyfriend

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN-05) has paid more than $250,000 in campaign funds to a man she allegedly is having an affair with.

According to a new report from Daily Mail, Omar’s campaign committee has dished out more than $250,000 in consulting fees and travel expenses to E Street Group, a progressive consulting firm run by Tim Mynett.

Mynett and Omar were recently spotted dining together and holding hands at an exclusive restaurant in Playa Del Rey, California, Daily Mail reported. Both Mynett and Omar are still legally married to other people, but they’ve both moved out of their marital homes.

As The Minnesota Sun previously reported, Omar separated from husband Ahmed Hirsi, the father of her three children, and moved into a $2,800-a-month penthouse in downtown Minneapolis.

“Wow. I can’t comment on that. I’m sorry, I just can’t say anything,” Hirsi said of the separation when approached by a reporter.

Mynett has reportedly moved into an apartment in the Petworth neighborhood of Washington, D.C., where apartments run for about $3,000-a-month.

Mynett’s wife, Beth, is the medical director for the D.C. Department of Corrections, and refused to comment on her relationship with her husband.

“I have no comment at this time,” she told the Daily Mail.

Omar and Mynett have been pictured sitting and standing together at several political events, but both declined to comment on the status of their relationship.

An analysis of Federal Election Commission records revealed that Omar’s campaign committee, Ilhan for Congress, has made large monthly payments of sums between $5,000 and $12,000 to Mynett’s firm, which has received a total of $253,000 from Omar’s people since August 2018.

Mynett previously worked for Omar’s predecessor, Attorney General Keith Ellison, as his national finance director when he was a congressman.

The news of Omar’s payments to her alleged lover comes the same week State Rep. Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa) submitted a formal request to the IRS and the Minnesota Department of Revenue for an investigation into the congresswoman’s fraudulent 2014 and 2015 tax returns. Drazkowski has also submitted a request to the U.S. House Committee on Ethics for an investigation into Omar’s conduct.
