Kari Lake Endorses Justin Heap for Maricopa County Recorder

Justin Heap and Kari Lake

Arizona U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake has endorsed State Representative Justin Heap’s (R-Mesa) campaign for Maricopa County Recorder.

“We must return integrity to our elections in Arizona. To do that, we need to restore integrity to the office that counts 63% of our state’s votes,” Lake said in a statement. “Justin Heap isn’t interested in TV appearances, Twitter feuds, and putting his foot on the scales of individual races. He wants to rebuild voter trust and do the job.”

“I’m proud to endorse Justin Heap to be our next Maricopa County Recorder,” Lake added.

On X, formerly Twitter, Lake also urged residents of Maricopa County to sign Heap’s online petition to qualify for the primary ballot as candidates have until April 1 to turn in valid petition signatures to have ballot access.

In addition to Lake’s endorsement, Heap has also been endorsed by Arizona U.S. Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ-05).

Biggs said Heap is a “proven conservative with a track record of standing up for free, fair, and honest elections,” adding, “I have no doubt that he is the right man to be our next Maricopa County Recorder.”

The Maricopa County Recorder’s Office, according to its website, is “responsible for maintaining voter files for more than 2.6 million active registered voters in Maricopa County.” The Recorder’s Office also “partners with the Maricopa County Elections Department to plan and hold jurisdictional, county, state, and federal level elections for all eligible Maricopa County voters.”

Heap, who launched his campaign on Wednesday, is hoping to unseat incumbent Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer.

Richer, as previously reported by The Arizona Sun Times, has come under immense criticism for maintaining that there were only minor problems during the 2022 election.

Heap has been serving in the Arizona House of Representatives for just over a year where he serves on multiple legislative committees, including Municipal Oversight and Elections.
