Likely U.S. Senate Candidate Gloria Johnson Promotes Gun Control Bus Tour Ahead of Special Session

A member of the State House of Representatives and likely U.S. Senate candidate who sources said will use the upcoming special session of the General Assembly as a platform to launch her campaign is promoting events for gun control groups.

State Rep. Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville) is boosting a pop-up gun control group called “Our Kids Deserve Better,” asking her Twitter followers to promote the group.

“Our Kids Deserve Better is launching a new campaign for common-sense gun safety laws following last spring’s tragedy at Nashville’s Covenant School. It’s time for Tennessee [Gov. Bill Lee] and his super-majority to quit stalling, do their job, and protect children,” the group said.

“Let the Governor and your rep and senator know that you want gun sense legislation with teeth, not the bait and switch nonsense in the call for special session!” Johnson (pictured above) said in another tweet.

“Our Kids Deserve Better” is also working in conjunction with the much more powerful Moms Demand Action, but Tennessee Democrats are hosting the bus tour itself.

“Join Memphis Moms Demand Action volunteers as we attend the launch of the ‘Our Kids Deserve Better’ Bus Tour, hosted by Tennessee Democrats,” Moms Demand Action said on its website.

Last week, The Tennessee Star reported the announcement of the bus tour, which will cross the state and end on August 21 at the state capitol, the day the special session begins.

“I’m here to announce a statewide effort that we are spearheading,” said Rep. John Ray Clemmons (D-Nashville), the Democrat caucus chair in a Monday morning press conference. “You know, too often we state legislators spend a great deal of time up here in the state capitol spinning our wheels about important issues. But today I’m announcing that my colleagues and I are putting some wheels on the road and heading out across the state to personally hear from and speak with Tennessee families on this important matter.”

A source told The Star earlier this week that Johnson is expected to use the special session to boost the profile of the U.S. Senate campaign for which she just launched an exploratory committee.

If she does move forward, Johnson will challenge U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

“I’ve been told by people in the general assembly that say that she’s officially announcing the day before session, and then she’s going to roll right into session and grandstand and make the session about her campaign,” the source told The Star.

Sure would like to know the schedule of the bus tour. Might be able to engage in some meaningful conversations.

Tennessee and the USA are now on the path toward 1917 Russia and 1930’s Germany. Beware of the Fox that smiles to be let into the hen house.
Very slick tactic to put a smiling female on the political posters?

Gloria Johnson is using children to further her miserable career as a divisive and destructive politician. Was it not enough that she spent 27 years using them as a part of the scheme to grow the failed public education system. It is people like this that would sell out everyone she knows for another step on her ladder to fame (infamy). She is nothing more than a professional agitator.
