Nashville Mayor John Cooper this week appointed seven Nashvillians to Metro’s Christmas Day Special Review Committee, one of whom is affiliated with Nashville’s Community Oversight Board and the left-of-center Conexión Américas.
This, according a press release that Cooper published Friday.
Other committee members include downtown property owners, community partners and public safety experts who will review and investigate the circumstances of the December 25 Christmas Day blast. They may also recommend improvements, procedures, or policy changes, the press release said.
Cooper’s appointees include the following:
• Jamie Hollin, principal at the Law Office of Jamie Hollin and a former Metro Councilmember for District 5.
• Andrés Martinez, director of policy and communications at Conexión Américas and chair of Nashville’s Community Oversight Board.
• Leshuan Oliver, captain of the Vanderbilt University Police Department and a member of Cooper’s Policing Policy Commission.
• Brenda Sanderson, a downtown resident and co-owner of The Stage, Legends Corner, and the Second Fiddle in downtown Nashville.
• Paul G. Summers, an attorney, a former senior judge on the Tennessee Supreme Court, and a former Tennessee attorney general.
• Darrell Talbert, president of Icon Entertainment Group, which owns and operates the Johnny Cash Museum, Patsy Cline Museum, Nudie’s Honky Tonk, House of Cards, Skull’s Rainbow Room, and the Johnny Cash Kitchen & Saloon in downtown Nashville. Talbert also is a member of Mayor Cooper’s Policing Policy Commission.
• Margie Quin, CEO of End Slavery Tennessee, a law enforcement veteran, and a member of Policing Policy Commission.
In addition to these candidates, Vice Mayor Jim Shulman has appointed Councilmember Jennifer Gamble and Mario Avila, who directs the Turner Family Center for Social Ventures at Vanderbilt University.
Metro Nashville Council members created the committee last month. The committee is separate and independent from the After Action Review panel that Metro Police Chief John Drake established in January.
Authorities said Anthony Warner caused a massive Christmas Day explosion that damaged at least 41 businesses on Second Avenue and collapsed one building.
Conexión Américas is a left-of-center multi-million dollar funded Latino advocacy organization headquartered in Nashville.

This makes no sense to me. Anybody know why he would need to create a committee for this? He’s up to something and not sure what it is. On another note, do these people get paid?
