Marsha Blackburn, Diane Black, Scott DesJarlais, and Jimmy Duncan Vote Against Deficit Increasing $1.3 Trillion Omnibus Budget Deal

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN-07), Rep. Diane Black (R-TN-06), Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04), and Rep. John J. “Jimmy” Duncan (R-TN-02) were the only four Republican members of the Tennessee delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives to vote against the deficit increasing $1.3 Trillion Omnibus Budget Bill to fund the federal government for the remainder of FY 2018 that passed the House on a 256-167 vote Thursday afternoon.

A total of 90 Republicans and 77 Democrats voted against the bill.

The bill now goes to the Senate for a vote on Friday. If it passes in the Senate, President Trump will have until midnight on Friday to either sign or veto the bill before non-essential offices of the federal government shut down.

Three Republican members of the Tennessee delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of the huge spending bill:

Republicans Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN-01), Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN-03), and Rep. David Kustoff (R-TN-08).

Kustoff’s yes vote could spell trouble for him in August, as he faces a tough primary challenge from Dr. George Flinn, who is a staunch conservative on fiscal matters and is running a well funded and aggressive campaign.

The two Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives from Tennessee split their votes, with Rep. Steve Cohen (R-TN-09) voting no and Rep. Jim Cooper (R-TN-05) voting yes.

Blackburn explained her vote against the $1.3 Trillion Omnibus spending bill in this tweet late Thursday:

Appearing on FoxNews Thursday afternoon, Rep. Black said of the spending bill, “I don’t believe this is the way we should be doing business here.”

Scott Desjarlais WAS my Congressman. After redistricting I got stuck with Fleischmann. I’ll be voting for ANYONE who runs against him in the Primary.

  4. CM in TN

Jeremy Massengale is running against Chuck Fleischmann in dist. 3. He will get my primary vote. Chuckie is too beholden to Ryan and Tom Donahues Chamber of Chinese Commerce. <-spit!

So Alexander’s name was at the top of the list voting for this garbage and Corker somehow voted against it.

What??? Is he running for re-election now?

  6. Dee

If you are displeased with the Omnibus bill, call All of the elected people representing the state of Tennessee. I’ve called the offices of Alexander, Black, Blackburn, Corker, and Kustoff to express my discontent with the bill, and Washington in general.

10-4! Contacted all my so called representatives and was on an e-mail to Trump by AFA. Since when have you ‘ever’ got the truth from these swamp rats much less any common sense results!??

    2. Stuart I. Anderson

And after you make that call resolve to do all you can in terms of contributions and evangelization to make sure we avoid Omnibus bills in the future by electing PROVEN conservatives Marsha, Mark Green, and Judd Matheny to congress.

      1. Papa

Opioid Marsha! Been in the swamp 16 years!

  7. Lee

Skeptical or not, a “No” vote was the right vote. Kudos to them all for seeing the “in your face” attitude Ryan & others took against the people, American safety, and the elected President.

  8. Brian McMurphy

Both parties are beyond their sell by dates.

When so-called Republicans are springing last minute trillion dollar bills that Democrats love and conservatives hate….what’s the point of parties anymore.

Shut down the government and hang these thieves.

End Congress in its current form. Give congressmen and senators an office at their state legislatures and vote by Skype.

Make those lobbyists earn their money and come where we can see them.

Well this is some political theatrics at it’s finest!

Black and Blackburn are masters of political prestidigiitation and ONLY voted against it because they are running for new seats and have challengers! Their past voting performances are in part how and why the US dept is $21+ TRILLION dollars! Neither of them are members of the House Freedom Caucus and they only stand firm when THEIR interests are hanging in the balances! They are both Swamp lovers!

Duncan isn’t running for reelection so he doesn’t care who he ticks off.

Desjarlais is the only one who, as a member of the Freedom Caucus, has consistently stood up against the SWAMP. Mainly because he has a bunch of Heritage Action Sentinels in Murfreesboro who have his back.

I have said for years that they get together and decide who should vote yes or no depending on who is running for reelection. This budget bill proves that exact point. They are not there for the people. It is all for what will make them rich!

Being a skeptical person I must ask, were some of the “no” votes just tokens? It was a given that the RINO Speaker of the House, Paul Ran, had the votes to pass this disgusting bill.

    1. Papa

Good thought. But I believe Black and Blackburn voted ‘no’ because of their bids for other offices. The only way I will vote for either of them is to keep the Dummycrat out!

      1. 83ragtop50

Exactly my point. This spending bill does not match up with all of the hype that Ms. Black has loaded into her TV commercials. I thought that she was the all-powerful head of the budget committee. So much for her wielding much influence in Washington. However, with the options available I plan to vote for her in the upcoming election but is not because of her success but because she stinks less than her oppositi0on.

    2. Stuart I. Anderson

Trying to read minds and elect true believing conservatives instead of conservatives motivated solely by electoral convenience is something I may engage in once conservatives dominate the Republican Party so that its unthinkable for the Party to support a bill that has Sen. Schumer laughingly comment that the Democrats are getting more of what they want now, compared to what they got when they had the Presidency and controlled the Congress. Right now, we have a primary coming up and we have Marsha voting right as she usually does as her 83% Heritage score and Club For Growth endorsement indicates, opposed by a wealthy no record mystery businessman who is ready to spend $5 million to create an illusion. First things first, lets nominate then elect Marsha.
