The Hendersonville, North Carolina Chick-fil-A is having a hard time finding employees, despite offering $19 an hour as a pay rate for full time positions. Along with the high wage pay, Chick-fil-A also offers other incentives as well.
Listed on their application page, other benefits to working at the restaurant are:

- $2500 college scholarships (must apply and be approved annually)
- Paid training
- Discounted meals during shifts
- Fun team environment
- Opportunity to advance into leadership
- Ability to build your career and resume
In response to a Scoop Nashville tweet about the restaurant’s struggle to find workers, one user replied, “say it with me, HENDERSONVILLE,” implying that the outlying town of 61,000 a half-hour north of Nashville was having to pay top dollar for entry-level workers.

Hendersonville, North Carolina, however – where the $19/hr job openings are located – is much smaller that its Tennessee namesake, with a population on less than 20,000. Located on the south western panhandle of the sate, Hendersonville is about 40 minutes south of Asheville.
When a Chick-fil-A location in Alabama was having problems with applicants, many commented on their Facebook post and said that if the restaurant offered more pay, there would be more people willing to work.
One person made the comment that “maybe if Chick-fil-A and other fast food restaurants started paying fair wages and benefits, then there wouldn’t be a staff shortage. It’s all about corporate greed. Reap what you sow!”
Another said, “not gonna make any assumptions about your hourly rate, but you might have to sweeten the pot. Good luck!”
But even with Chick-fil-A increasing the pay rate, there doesn’t seem to be enough people applying. Some have attributed the chain’s history with anti-LGBTQ community as why people have not been applying.
When Scoop Nashville made the same post on their Instagram account, comments were made that because of Chick-fil-A’s ‘hate,’ that there was no surprise of the lack of applications.
One Instagram user said, “I wonder why… oh right Hate.”
Some users said that they applied and never heard back. One added that during his interview he was asked if he went to church, “a manager asked what church I went to, and I said I didn’t go to church he gave me a Nelly Oleson swear then never hired me.”
Despite this, the North Carolina restaurant is still urging for people to apply, and one of their managers has taken to their Facebook page to post videos busting the ‘myths’ of the $19 an hour pay rate.
“I gotta tell ya, this is a real deal,” he said, “here’s the reality. Here’s some things that we’re doing. Yes, it’s $19 an hour, starting pay at full time.” He went on to add that within 30 days, some may have the chance to add up to an extra dollar on their hourly pay.
