Running for U.S. Senate, Manny Sethi Visits Clay County

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Manny Sethi spoke at the Clay County Reagan Day Dinner Sunday.

“You made me who I am,” Sethi told audience members.

“You gave me a chance. I ask you to give me a chance again, this time to represent you in the U.S. Senate.”

Sethi grew up in Coffee County before attending Brown University and Harvard Medical School.

Sethi spoke about the need for conservative healthcare reform, calling for a full repeal of Obamacare. He also called for a plan to solve the opioid crisis. Lastly, he said he supported U.S. Republican President Donald Trump’s stance on illegal immigration.

“My parents came to this country legally. They stood in line, they waited their turn, why can’t everyone else?” Sethi asked, according to the press release.

Sethi will travel to Stewart, Shelby, and Van Buren counties this week.

Sethi is an orthopedic trauma surgeon and the founder and president of Healthy Tennessee, a nonprofit organization designed to promote preventative health care across the state.

Raised in Coffee County, Sethi received his undergraduate degree from Brown University. He then went on to receive his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. After college, as a Fulbright Scholar he worked in Tunisia with children suffering from muscular dystrophy.

Sethi later returned to Tennessee. He is the co-editor of An Introduction to Health Policy with Senator William Frist, MD, and author of The American Dream in Tennessee: Stories of Faith, Struggle, and Survival, a book about the power of faith, family, and community in the treatment of near-life-ending trauma.

He is married with two children, and the family attends McKendree United Methodist Church in Nashville.

As The Tennessee Star reported in June, Sethi wants to replace retiring U.S. Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee.

Sethi reportedly called upon Bill Lee consultant Jordan Gehrke, as well as Chris Devaney, a former state Republican Party chairman who served as Lee’s campaign manager, to handle campaign operations.

Here’s hoping Dr. Sethi will become Senator Sethi. And will stay a strong conservative voice in Congress, unlike Lamar Alexander who turned out to be a rhino.
