Senate Candidate Sethi Denounces Democrats’ Impeachment Move Against President Trump

U.S. Senatorial candidate Dr. Manish “Manny” Sethi on Tuesday expressed his support for President Donald Trump in defense of the Commander-in-Chief over the Democrats’ calls for impeachment.

“I can’t believe what I just heard from Speaker Pelosi,” Sethi said in a statement. “The left continues to push for division instead of unity. These impeachment inquiries are nothing more than partisan theatrics. I support President Trump fully and urge Democrats to end this charade.”

“I urge Republicans like Mitt Romney not to join the Democrats, but to stand firm in supporting our President.”

Sethi in June announced his bid to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), The Tennessee Star reported.

Democrats’ latest effort to impeach Trump stems from allegations he is pressuring Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, The Star reported, citing VOA News. Trump has dismissed such talk.

“We had a perfect phone call with the president of Ukraine. Everybody knows it. It’s just a Democrat witch hunt. Here we go again. They failed with Russia, they failed with recession, they failed with everything,” Trump said Monday. “It’s very important to talk about corruption. If you don’t talk about corruption, why would you give money to a country that you think is corrupt?…It’s very important that on occasion you speak to somebody about corruption.”

Sethi’s support of Trump is his latest move in the campaign to position himself as a conservative candidate.

Sethi is an orthopedic trauma surgeon and the founder and president of Healthy Tennessee, a nonprofit organization designed to promote preventative health care across the state. The organization has cared for thousands of patients in almost every county in Tennessee. He stepped down from leadership in the organization in early September to focus on his Senate run.

Raised in Coffee County, Sethi received his undergraduate degree from Brown University. He then went on to receive his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. As a Fulbright Scholar he worked in Tunisia with children suffering from muscular dystrophy.

Sethi is the co-editor of An Introduction to Health Policy with Senator William Frist, MD, and author ofThe American Dream in Tennessee: Stories of Faith, Struggle, and Survival, a book about the power of faith, family, and community in the treatment of near-life-ending trauma.
