Senate Democrats Block Tennessee Senator Bill Hagerty’s Amendment Barring Illegal Aliens from Being Counted on the Census

The U.S. Senate failed to pass an amendment introduced by U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) that would bar illegal immigrants from being factored into the count for congressional districts and the Electoral College map that determines presidential elections on Friday.

A total of 47 Democrats, three Independents, and one Republican senator voted against the amendment, which failed to pass by a 45-51 vote.

Hagerty called the Democrats’ “unanimous opposition” to the amendment “confirms that they value power more than protecting the equality of each American’s vote.”

“Today I forced Chuck Schumer to hold a vote on whether illegal aliens should be counted for determining the number of congressional seats and electoral votes each state gets,” Hagerty said in a statement. “Democrats’ unanimous opposition to this commonsense measure confirms that they’re using illegal aliens and sanctuary cities to increase their political power. With this vote, Senate Democrats chose to trample on the rights of each American’s voice.”

“I will continue to fight and press this issue in the Senate,” Hagerty added.

Ohio U.S. Senator JD Vance (R-OH), who voted in favor of Hagerty’s amendment, applauded the Tennessee senator for forcing a vote on the matter.

“Last night every single Democrat voted to ensure illegal aliens continue to receive congressional representation. It’s a disgrace, especially after Biden decided to flood the country with 10 million illegals,” Vance added.

Billionaire Elon Musk also weighed in on the Senate vote, writing on X, “Since illegals are mostly in Democrat states, both the House and the Presidential vote are shifted ~5% to the left, which is enough to change the entire balance of power!”

“This is a major reason why the Biden administration is ushering in record levels of illegals and doing so few deportations,” Musk added.

This should make every citizen angry. Illegal aliens are not residents or citizens of the U.S., and I don’t care what idiocy Schumer and et al come up with. Counting them in the Census is WRONG. This will skew the count in every district of our country. If you wondered if the Dems are for America, the answer is “NO.” They hate America and are trying to destroy the rights of every real citizen. Please vote responsibly in November.

Mr Bumpass, very thorough, very accurate and very well written. I am sure this democrat plan to subvert the US Constitution will end up in the Supreme Court for the very reasons you list. It is clear the intent by democrats was for the sole purpose of protecting their position. I agree with you the need for increased political activity to run the likes of Schumer and the democrat lemmings out of the Senate.

According to Article V of the U. S. Constitution, the Constitution may be amended in one of two ways: (1) by action of the Congress; or (2) by action of a Convention called by two-thirds of the Legislatures of the States.

Focusing only on the first method of possible amendment for the purposes of this comment, the first sentence of Article V of the U. S. Constitution recites that the Congress may amend the Constitution only when two-thirds of both Houses of the Congress propose an amendment to the document. It goes without saying, it is very difficult in most cases to get two-thirds of both Houses of the Congress to agree upon anything.

Currently, the division between the Democrats and the Republicans in the U. S. House of Representatives is approximately even. In that 435 member body (not counting the delegates from those American jurisdictions which are not States, such as the District of Columbia etc., and which thus do not have full floor voting privileges), presently there are three (3) vacancies until Special Elections fill them, and the Republicans are in the majority with 219 members and the Democrats have 213 members, a majority being 217 votes {432 members divided by 2 equals 216, plus 1, equals 217}. Currently in the U. Senate, the division between the Democrats and the Republicans is also approximately even. In that 100 member body, 48 are Democrats, 49 are Republicans, and three (who caucus with, and almost always vote with, the Democrats) claim to be Independents, a majority being 51 votes.

However, 2024 may be one of those very rare years when the public outrage at the actions of a political party (what I call the Marxist Democrats in this instance), is such that the public may choose in effect to utterly destroy the current radical leftist Democrat Party as an effective political organization.

If you favor an amendment to the U. S. Constitution such as that which Tennessee’s U. S. Senator Hagerty has proposed, and which is reported about in this news story, I urge you to be totally ruthless when you cast your ballot later this year. Never has the Congress and official Washington, D. C. been more politicized. In my opinion, the only way to successfully fight this ‘fire’ is with ‘fire’. Like it or not, that is just the way that it is.

If the American voting public this year votes OUT the Democrats in large enough numbers, and votes IN the Republicans in equally large enough numbers to achieve the aforesaid minimum requirement of a two-thirds congressional majority in each House of the Congress to amend the Constitution (with a comfortable enough margin to account for the inevitable ‘faithless’ congressional/senatorial members), then maybe, just maybe, the American people can begin to ‘take back’ their federal government from the ‘money changers’ and the special interests which have almost destroyed our country.

As it always does in a constitutional Republic, this momentous decision rests with its citizens and its voters, as it should.
