Tennessee Approves of New Vanderbilt Hospital in Rutherford County

Vanderbilt Health announced Thursday that Rutherford county officials have approved plans for new hospital. The medical center will hold 42 beds, and be located at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and state route 840 in Murfreesboro.

“We are pleased with the outcome and want to thank members of the Health Services and Development Agency for the approval to build this new hospital. Our goal continues to be to serve the needs of the many citizens of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County who choose Vanderbilt for their care, and we can now do that with Vanderbilt Rutherford Hospital,” C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center said in a statement.

According to a news release from Vanderbilt Health in September, the new facility will cost $144,276,600.

The statement also said that the hospital would “be a full-service community hospital providing emergency room services, obstetrics, surgical capabilities, and cardiac catheterization services, and it will bring additional ICU capacity to the community.”

According to Vanderbilt, within the last year, they have served over 52,000 Rutherford County residents, many of which have to travel to downtown Nashville to receive treatments. They said it was a 20 percent increase since 2018, and the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The hospital currently has 1,700 employees that are from the Rutherford County area and has brought more than $8 million in charity care per year and investing more than $40.5 million in capital investments over the past three years.

The September statement acknowledged that the company had filed for a new location last year, but the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency rejected the location after objections by Saint Thomas Rutherford, StoneCrest Medical Center, and Williamson Medical Center.

  1. John

Three entities that never feel the brunt of a recession or inflation:

    1. Government
    2. Universities
    3. Huge medical conglomerates

And Vanderbilt uniquely fits two out of 3 of these.

And they are deeply entrenched in local politics. So that is three out of three.
