Tennessee Republicans React to the Total Arrests CBP Made at Southern Border in Fiscal Year 2022

Numerous Tennessee Republican leaders reacted to how many arrests U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) made during the Fiscal Year 2022.

CBP announced Monday that over 1.82 million arrests were made at the U.S.-Mexico border for the Fiscal Year 2022. In comparison, there were 1,662,167 arrests in the Fiscal Year 2021 and 405,036 for the Fiscal Year 2020, the last year of former President Donald Trump’s term.

U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) noted the dubious milestone, saying in a tweet, “Arrests of illegal immigrants have hit another record high, with 1.82M arrests at the southern border since October. This is not the record you want to be breaking, and the Biden administration couldn’t seem to care less.”

“10 suspected terrorists were caught attempting to enter our country through the southern border in July. How many were not caught? It only takes one to devastate our nation. Joe Biden’s negligence of the border is putting every American’s life at risk,” she added in another.

U.S. Representative Mark Green (R-TN-07) tweeted, “In my lifetime, I have never seen a presidential administration blatantly ignore such a massive crisis happening within our borders.”

Yes, Every Kid

U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN-02) said via Twitter, “Border patrol agents arrested a record-breaking 1.82 MILLION illegal immigrants at the southern border so far this fiscal year. How many more are getting through without being caught?”

The federal agency said in part, “U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the nation’s largest federal law enforcement agency charged with securing the nation’s borders and facilitating international travel and trade. Our top priority is to keep terrorists and their weapons from entering the United States.”

“At the nation’s more than 300 ports of entry, CBP officers have a complex mission with broad law enforcement authorities tied to screening all foreign visitors, returning American citizens and imported cargo that enters the U.S. Along the nation’s borders, the United States Border Patrol and Air and Marine Operations are the uniformed law enforcement arms of CBP responsible for securing U.S. borders between ports of entry,” the statement added.

The recidivism rate for border apprehensions for the Fiscal Year 2021 was 27 percent. According to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, “Recidivism percentages are updated at the end of each fiscal year” and “refers to percentage of individuals apprehended more than one time by the Border Patrol within a fiscal year.”
