Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) released a statement offering insight on his decision to switch his vote in the Speaker of the House race during the chamber’s 12th round of voting on Friday.
Ogles voted for California Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-CA-20) in the speakership race during the chamber’s 12th round of voting on Friday, The Tennessee Star previously reported.

Before switching his vote on Friday, Ogles had supported other nominated candidates instead of McCarthy since voting began on Tuesday.
“I came to Congress to ensure that the Conservative values and principles of Tennessee’s 5th District were represented in our nation’s capital,” Ogles’ statement began. “One of our country’s most significant issues is a lack of accountability and transparency in how our government operates. After negotiating in good faith with my Republican colleagues over the past few weeks, I believe we have a framework to begin addressing this.”

Ogles added, “Therefore, to continue negotiations in process, I am currently supporting Rep. Kevin McCarthy to serve as Speaker of the House.”
“It is an honor to represent Tennessee’s 5th District, and I’m excited for the 118th Congress to begin working hard for the American people,” Ogles concluded.
Following his statement, Ogles retweeted a message from one of his Republican colleagues, Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL-13), that listed examples of eight negotiations McCarthy allegedly agrees to if he is elected speaker.

A few negotiations “in play” Luna listed include: limiting bills to a single subject; ending all COVID-19 mandates and related funding; a 72-hour timeframe for representatives to read a bill; a Jeffersonian Motion to vacate the chair – meaning that a single representative can make the motion to remove the speaker if he goes back on his word or policy agenda; and more.
Luna joined Ogles and 13 Republicans in switching her support over to McCarthy during the 12th round of voting.

Bad move ogles. You caved just like a weak Republican.
Ms Independent, once you get everything you want so, as Matt Gaetz stated, you can’t think of anything else to ask for, it’s time to join the team and move on. Kevin McCarthy (Heritage-53%) isn’t a bad guy, he’s just a no ideology, power hungry, slippery centrist who has to be tied down with rules. Andy was one of 20 who decided to do that and we should all be proud.
Looks like Andy is hot air like the rest of them. There is NO conservative movement that actually represents the people of the USA, just the criminals of Ukraine. I have zero doubt that we will be involved in a bloody conflict against the federal government within the next 5 years.
I live in the newly redrawn 5th District, I don’t recognize Andy Ogles as my Representative.
Cannoneertwo for years we didn’t recognize Red China, but Red China didn’t disappear so we decided that “not recognizing” stuff was silly. I live in the 5th too and Andy is our representative Cannoneertwo and we are both very lucky to have him indeed.
We have seen this before from Republicans. Newt Gingrich and the “Contact With America”. After deceiving the American people with this bribe to get elected, they wouldn’t vote it into existence, claiming “we only said we’d bring it to a vote, not that we would vote for it”. These line items will never happen. At best, there will be assurances from the Senate to block any reforms to pass the house, but allow them to put on a good show. Just like it works in TN, even with 12 years of Republican supermajority. Same fraud leadership has protected the chop shop at Vanderbilt for three years killing bills in committee, refusing to make motions to hear the bill, now “come to the rescue of children” since Matt Walsh pulled their pants down in public.
Horatio – Well stated and accurate.
Horatio, you can’t expect silk purses with a bunch of sow’s ears sitting in the House. So I have an idea. Let’s begin saving our money now in preparation for the Republican primaries in a little over a year from now. In the spring of ’24 we can then spend that saved money in Republican primaries all around the country in support of stalwart conservatives in winnable races against centrist/tepid conservatives. Let’s get others to join us with the goal of slowly but surely making the Republican Party as reliably conservative as the Democrats are reliably leftist.
It is unlikely that anything in Washington will change. The incentive and insistence to serve deep pocketed campaign donors and Corporate interest to the detriment of the public is greater than the intestinal fortitude that most of those people posses. I do however remain hopeful. We shall see.
“You gotta know when to hold ’em. Know when to fold ’em..” Well played Andy, congratulations!
I guess your reserve price was hit. Next time include a buy it now option.
