Truck Drivers Say They Won’t Deliver to Cities That Defund Police Departments

Tennessee Star

As Minneapolis prepares to “abolish” its police force, a recent survey found that most truck drivers won’t deliver to cities with defunded or disbanded police departments.

According to a survey from CDLLife, a resource site for the trucking industry, 79 percent of truck drivers said they will refuse to deliver freight to cities with defunded police departments.

The organization took an informal poll of drivers who use its “CDLLife App” and presented them with the question: “Would you pick up/deliver to cities with defunded police departments? Why or why not?”

As of June 13, the organization had received 1,283 responses and 79 percent of participants said they would refuse to deliver loads to cities with disbanded or defunded police departments.

“I will not deliver to an area with a disbanded police department. My life matters and I do this for my family. We are already at the mercy of these towns and cities with laws and hate against us for parking, getting a meal or even using a restroom,” said one truck driver who participated in the poll.

Another said he has already informed his dispatcher that he “will refuse all loads to cities that have defunded police departments.”

A report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranked driving a truck the deadliest job in America in 2018.

“Driver/sales workers and truck drivers had the most fatalities of any broad occupation group at 966. Among all detailed occupations, heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers had the most fatalities at 831,” said the report.

The Minneapolis City Council unanimously approved a resolution Friday declaring its intent to create a “transformative new model for cultivating safety in Minneapolis.”

“The murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, by Minneapolis police officers, is a tragedy that shows that no amount of reforms will prevent lethal violence and abuse by some members of the Police Department against members of our community, especially Black people and people of color,” states the resolution.

The council established a “Future of Community Safety Work Group” to create a preliminary set of recommendations for replacing the police department.

“American democracy is an experiment, each generation has an opportunity to move this experiment forward, toward living out the true meaning of its creed,” City Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins said in a press release. “This resolution represents our moment to contribute to the progression of equality and freedom of every resident of the City of Minneapolis.”

Interesting. Are these union drivers, nor non-union? The article doesn’t say whether this is coming from the Teamsters or not.

  2. Lisa

Lots of big talk from people who know nothing about the trucking industry which has a tough time finding good dependable drivers. The drivers deserve protection as do all those good people hiding in their homes from the wreckage by people with nothing better to do. There’s no quick replacements standing around. Too many think they are above driving. God bless those drivers.

  3. Bob

Yeah right! Truck drivers don’t stick together anymore. The Union are a scam. The ones who refuse will just loose their jobs and get replaced with new “I gotta feed my family” guys who’ll drive right in there. Please.

    1. Lunchbox

Hopefully those that do will have to towed out. . .

  4. JVLFberht

I for one back this initiative 100%. Truckers ARE the lifeblood of the civilized world. No one should expect them to put their lives on the line for a trailer full of widgets/supplies/food, or whatever.

If the ELECTED official’s officials refused to protect their citizens and infrastructure… No problem… Deliver to a municipality that WILL

Defunding does not mean destroying. Defunding means trying new ways of providing law enforcement. For instance, having mental health personnel respond to calls involving a person who has a mental illness. There will always be a need for conventional law enforcement, and cities are not going to do away with it. The term “defund” is misleading. Restructure should have been used instead.

      1. Garen

Restructuring isn’t needed, there are such agencies already in existence and well funded by the government. There’s no reason to lower or take away salaries for good officers who put their lives on the line each and everyday! STOP the lies and call it what it is , wanting to do away with our police officers, how ridiculous is that!!!😡

      2. Jan van de Ven

Defund means defund trying new ways for law enforcement that dont help the truck drivers so that shouldnt be done now

      3. William Baggins

I suppose you propose sending social workers to calls regarding domestic violence?? We know how that will turn out. I actually want to see that happen. Let’s start in NYC, Chicago, Frisco & LA.

      4. Kristie

Something minor like autism yes, I can see where that might work with the exception of already being short of mental health now in all aspects. There are many violent mentally ill people and no social worker is going to put their lives at risk for violent mentally ill people. Also calling a psychiatrist or addiction counselor out for people that are on drugs and violent out of control where even the hospital turns them back over to the police to handle because they can’t control them will not work. The police will still have to be there in all those cases for liability reasons which is double the funding which doesn’t exist. Maybe teaching the police better strategies of handling such cases and more in depth academies and more thorough interviews of people applying to be a cop as well as teaching a moral compass & quit with the we are the police ego mentality needs to be addressed. That for sure needs to be addressed but there are so many crimes right now that are unsolved because the number of crime including murders, rape, burglary and everything else outnumbers the police available. It’s not like TV. Cases may be able to use computers to type up information and the system to look up information but it’s still good old fashioned paperwork typed form of hundreds sometimes thousands of pages for one case alone.

      5. so who will stop the mental health workers being murdered by the psychopath or who will pay the family’s of the person murdered by the mentally ill person as there is no cop to stop him the police budgets need to be trebled not cut say 79% of americans only 21% (brain dead’s) want police funding cut

    2. Ann Canter

      Makes complete sense!

No respect for cops or support, no “stuff”!

      Natural consequences!

  5. Kimberly Shoffner

I don’t blame them one bit!!! Thank you Truckers!!! ❤️

  6. Lou

Does anyone here really believe that a trucker will risk his job? I hardly think so, especially with hundreds of thousands truckers who are members of and supporters the Teamsters Union. A union which contributes tons of money to the Democrat Party, which wants to defund the police, in the first place. They are just as full of it as the idiot that believes the tripe they are spouting..

    1. Kimberly Shoffner

It’s painfully obvious you know very little of what you’re talking about! Please stop spreading lies!

    2. Ron Hill

Considering there is 200,000 shortage of truck drivers in America, I think the possibility of drivers refusing to drive into a chaos city with no police force is pretty good.

    3. Cory

      My life….
      My job…..
I can get another job no problem, another life not so easy!
And the Teamsters aren’t what they used to be, most are local city drivers, very few over the road (long haul) truckers are members. I’m under a no forced dispatch policy. I pick where I want to run and I can mark no to any city I please. (true story)

Cannot blame the truckers. I watched in horror as the mob on the I-35 bridge block in Minneapolis was getting ready to throw the truck driver off the bridge onto the railroad below. It looked like a 40 foot drop. This was after they drug him out of his truck. We cannot expect truckers to drive their rigs into situations like this. This footage was blocked later by the MSM, of course.

These people in Minneapolis has got to be some of dumbest individuals ever to enter politics. They have just signed up for tons of lawsuits and the end of their careers.

  9. Jay

This is great. All of these pathetic liberal snowflakes will no longer be able to get their Amazon Prime nor precious little iPhones. Poetic justice!

    1. James

Amazon will take over, they’ve already done away with the need for ups FedEx and the like, what’s stopping them from creating their own long haul trucking division. if there’s money to be made someone will step in and fill the void. if a truck driver refuses to deliver to a place they will easily find someone who will

  10. Pandora Vreeland

Good for them! The store shelves will be empty in three days if the trucks stop rolling.

  11. Bets

Thank you truckers. I do not blame you one bit.
These people in favor of disbanding the police are so incredibly stupid.

  12. The only people that is really fight back..Trucker’s will stick together.

    Thank you Truckers

    1. Robert E. Davis

I pray for the freight companies and truckers that have to face this kind of crap by “2 year olds” with baseball bats and tire irons threatening everyone that doesn’t agree with them! How many of these cowards pay property, state and federal taxes at all………a huge majority of these cretins don’t even have a job but yet they are free to roam the streets to burn and destroy other peoples property, shoot or beat people to death with absolute impunity!! To never face the court system for arson, assault and murder.

    2. Judy Dyer

This has been an ongoing danger many civilians have overlooked for years. It is worsened now with travesties everywhere. The president should declare The truck routes in America to be safety prioritized if economy is important.Which it is !yes. The truckers have the power now to control order if they finally will.
