Two women in Ashtabula, Ohio, have been arrested and charged for their alleged transport of an elderly man’s corpse to a bank for the illegal withdrawal of cash.

On Thursday, the Ashtabula Police Department (APD) announced that it received a call from the Ashtabula County Medical Center (ACMC) on Monday concerning a deceased elderly man who was dropped off at their facility by two unidentified females.

The females, according to APD, reportedly left the ACMC shortly after arriving without providing any information about the deceased man or themselves.

A few hours later, one of the females contacted the ACMC and provided some information on the deceased man, who was later identified as Douglas Layman of Ashtabula, 80.

After responding to the deceased man’s residence, APD says its officers made contact with the two females, Loreen B. Feralo (pictured above, left) and Karen Casbohm (pictured above, right), who happened to be roommates of Layman.

“Having had an opportunity to interview them at the home investigators obtained information as to what had transpired earlier in the evening with Mr. Layman,” APD explained in a press release. “It is alleged that the two women had found Mr. Layman earlier in the day dead inside his residence where they both had also been residing.”

APD continued, “It is also alleged that with the help of a third individual they placed Mr. Layman in the front seat of his car and then drove to the bank where they withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from his account. It is further alleged that Mr. Layman was placed in the vehicle in such a manner that he would be visible to bank staff in order to make the withdrawal. The women then proceeded to ACMC shortly thereafter where his body was left with staff at the facility.”

Feralo and Casbohm have both been charged with Gross Abuse of a Corpse and were arraigned at the Ashtabula Municipal Court.

More charges, according to APD, are pending for the two women.
