U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper Takes Dig at Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Says Joe Biden’s Gun Control Plans Will Save Lives

U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN-05) said this week that U.S. President Joe Biden’s executive plans on gun control will save lives.

Cooper, in a press release, went on to say that this is especially true “here in Middle Tennessee where our governor just signed a bill to allow the carrying of firearms without a permit.”

“President Biden’s executive actions will invest in evidence-based community violence intervention, provide model red flag laws for states, and begin new initiatives to track gun trafficking and ‘ghost guns’ that lack a serial number,” Cooper said.

Last month Cooper said he joined the U.S. House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force in a letter asking Biden to use his authority under The National Firearms Act to regulate the sales of concealable assault-style weapons.

Cooper also joined Democratic Members of Congress in a letter to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) last week asking him to bring the expanded background check bills for gun sales up for a vote in the U.S. Senate. The bills, H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021, and H.R. 1446, the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021, passed the U.S. House of Representatives last month. Cooper said they will eliminate loopholes and expand background checks on all gun purchases.

Biden last week announced a series of executive plans he will take that he said will address gun violence. He described gun violence as an epidemic and a national embarrassment. Biden said his executive orders will tighten restrictions on ghost guns, firearms without serial numbers that are sold in kits and assembled at home, and pistol stabilizing braces.

The president said he will also direct resources toward community violence prevention and wants to address the frequent gun violence that affects Blacks and Latinos. He also ordered the U.S. Department of Justice to create a template for each state to enact red flag laws that allow judges to seize firearms from people deemed a threat to themselves or others.

Jim Cooper needs to stay in Congress representing Tennesseans who believe in stricter gun control, not looser. It is embarrassing to live in a state where the governor plays into the trumpian base at every opportunity. Get over it, Biden is our President because the majority and the Electoral College voted him in. Thank goodness Rep Jim Cooper stands with the Biden agenda.

Well no one is holding a gun to your head (pun intended) to stay in Tennessee. President Biden is a criminal, and he and the VP are a joke. His whole administration is a circus and it will be a miracle if we’re not embroiled in a world war due to their ineptness, If you are embarrassed to live in the Great Red State of Tennessee why don’t you move to CA, NY, or VT. Think about how much happier you could be.

Jim Cooper needs to take Biden to a nice deserted island. They can control that. They suck at everything else. Biden is an embarrassment. He is a joke. He is not qualified to working at McDonald’s. He most definitely needs to keep his nasty perverted hands off children. He needs on the sexual offenders list.

They support “stricter gun control” for us. But in their current House gun control laws and assault weapons ban, they EXEMPT THEMSELVES and they EXEMPT PRIVATE ARMED SECURITY for their wealthy donors and friends! What about “the rule of law”, you know, “the equal protection of the laws” (14th Amendment) and “no one is above the law”? No, these are tyrannical hypocrites who want to violate the Bill of Rights and TAKE FROM US WHAT THEY HAVE AND KERO FOR THEMSELVES!! This is incredible evil because ONLY YOUR ENEMY WANTS YOU DISARMED!

If you want strict gun control so you think you will feel safe, move to my state, NJ, you’ll love it! No one can carry a weapon or can get a carry permit, you cannot carry anything to try and defend yourself, not even a tiny pocket knife. NJ has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and passing even more as I type.

I just moved from there to TN so I can get as far away as possible from that liberal, Dem, sanctuary blue state that’s run by a dictator. Go, it seems the perfect place for you, I guarantee you’ll be begging to come back to a free state.

Yield to your embarrassment, move to a blue state. And take your imposter president and cooper with you.

Its glaringly obvious that both Coopers need to go. Maybe a better home for them would be NY or Ca. where their type of idiocy is the norm.

First I would like to say to Representative Cooper, shame on you for being a member of the political party that cheated their way into controlling our federal government. And anyone who denies that the democrats cheated during the presidential election is a blind fool.

I quote; “The president said he will also direct resources toward community violence prevention and wants to address the frequent gun violence that affects Blacks and Latinos.” Let’s hope the majority of effort is put into this claim. This is the true problem. Look at Chicago, every week there is the equivalent of a “mass shooting”, and the nonstop violence and murders are swept under the carpet by the MSM.

As to your “universal background checks” legislation, UBCs cannot be enforced unless there is mandatory firearms registration, and all of you know it. At the gun shows I’ve attended over the last thirty years all required the sale to include a background check, so stop using the false term “the gun show loophole”. UBC legislation will do nothing to stop the illegal sales of firearms to persons already barred from possessing them. THEY’RE CRIMINALS. They don’t respect the law in the first place. Again, you know this, and again, the true intent is mandatory firearms registration.

Pistol braces, the BATF should have thought that out before they approved them. The vast majority of shootings are committed with regular semi-automatic handguns, a.k.a. pistols. You all are just using the dreaded “assault rifle” term as it sounds scary. You also know that with over 200,000,000 modern sporting rifles in the possession by law abiding Americans, it will be virtually impossible to nullify the Constitution. The Founding Fathers’ insight into long lasting freedom and liberty is nothing short of amazing.

All of us legal firearms owners (and there are millions of us) agree that the violence taking place in America is unacceptable. And going back to my first paragraph regarding the Democratic Party I would like to say this. You continually work to restrict law abiding Americans’ right to keep and bear arms for self defense, yet you continue to let violent criminals out of jail, or in the case of illegal aliens you just turn them loose into America. You continually allowed violent groups (BLM and antifa) to burn, loot, and attach law enforcement without prosecution, and then you want to turn law abiding Americans into criminals by passing legislation making a gun part that was deemed legal, illegal. The Democratic Party just reeks with hypocrisy.

“…shall not be infringed.” Cooper and Biden are elitists, who are protected by paid armed security and think that they are above all other laws. Both need an early retirement!

But Joe Biden also thinks that “No (Constitutional) amendment is absolute.” Does this mean that he thinks that the 15th and 19th Amendments, which gave Blacks and women the right to vote, are perhaps debatable? Maybe we should decide that the 16th Amendment (the Federal Income Tax) is voluntary and not send our checks to the IRS. Wonder if Cooper thinks these same things?

    1. Ron Welch

The 1966 SCOTUS landmark Miranda ruling which declared that “we have a right to remain silent” pursuant to the 5th Amendment, also ruled,

“Where rights secured by the Constitution are involved, there can be no rule making or legislation which would abrogate them.” ― Miranda v. Arizona (384US436)

According to those words, our rights are absolute. What is absolute is that the Federal Government may lawfully do NOTHING without enumerated delegated powers according to the clear wording of the 19th Amendment. And it has NO enumerated delegated powers for gun control laws pertaining to the People!

      1. Ron Welch

Correction to my previous comment, “the Federal Government may do NOTHING without delegated powers according to the 10th Amendment.

  7. mikey whipwreck

if jim pooper says it, it must be a lie.

you already have to have a background check to buy a gun.

    >begin new initiatives to track gun trafficking

wonder if this would have tracked Holder’s Operation Fast and Furious

  8. AWM

Once again Cooper demonstrates his ignorance.

  9. Do you have to have a permit or background check to buy Cocaine off the street? Just wondering?

    1. Ron Welch

David, no doubt soon, “the powers that be” will demand a vaccine (experimental gene therapy) permit for going about our daily lives. Most of them will be those who say “healthcare is a right”. I agree that it is, included in the 9th Amendment of non-enumerated rights, and as such cannot be restricted, mandated or permitted by any authority other than the individual person acting according to being “secure in our persons” according to the 4th Amendment. These authoritarians hate and despise the American Revolution and the Bill of Rights!

      Long Live the Revolution!

Past time for Cooper to retire! He’s out of touch like basement Biden

  11. Nancy

I hope the Tennessee General Assembly is paying attention to Jim Cooper! The 5th congressional district needs to be broken up ! Nashville should have 5 congressman not one district! Cooper is a warmonger, Nancy Pelosi loving liberal! It is time to end the John and Jim Cooper Dynasty!!! I hope the Davidson county republican party will actively recruit good candidates for all local and state offices. Its time to build a strong party in Nashville! Former GOP rep Beth Harwell did nothing to build a strong gop party! I am glad she is gone! Thank you Davidson GOP for getting involved with repealing the 34% property tax increase!
