A new gun control nonprofit in Tennessee commended Gov. Bill Lee (R), who Tuesday officially issued a proclamation calling for a special session of the General Assembly, which will focus on gun laws.
“We commend Governor Bill Lee for issuing the official call for a special session to begin on Aug. 21, 2023, at 4 p.m.,” said Voices for a Safer Tennessee on its website. “While Tennesseans have voiced support for a broader scope of solutions to be considered during the special session, opening doors to discuss orders of protection, beginning to address background check challenges, and educating the public on the value of secure storage, are first steps in the right direction and mark the beginning of a process that will carry into the 2024 Tennessee General Assembly and beyond.”
Specifically, the group is asking for “temporary transfer laws,” which it says will “allow authorities to temporarily restrict access to firearms from people who pose a risk to themselves or others.”
Such propositions are often called red flag laws.
Lee has called for “order of protection” laws, which would also take firearms out of the hands of gun owners without due process.
Voices for a Safer Tennessee is also demanding stronger firearm storage laws and more background check requirements.
As reported by The Tennessee Star, Voices for a Safer Tennessee purports to be a grassroots organization founded in the wake of The Covenant School shooting in March.
However, the group is run by political operators from both sides of the political aisle.
Todd Cruse is the group’s chairman.
Cruse was also the treasurer of a PAC called DentaQuest during the 2022 election cycle.
The Star reported:
A political action committee dubbed “DentaQuest PAC,” according to OpenSecrets, gave $77,000 to a state Republican training organization called GOPAC during the 2022 election cycle.
Federal Election Commission records show Todd Cruse as the Treasurer for DentaQuest PAC in the 2022 filings.
The DentaQuest spokesperson confirmed Cruse was a member of the DentaQuest PAC committee, “but was not individually responsible for any contributions made.”
GOPAC’s tagline is “Educating and Electing a New Generation of Republican Leaders.”
Records show that DentaQuest PAC also donated $10,000 to the Democratic Lieutenant Governor’s Organization, and a sizable sum to the left-wing fundraising platform ActBlue.
The special session will begin on August 21.

Our governor attends Governors’ Conferences, which apparently encourages everything EXCEPT adherence to the U.S. Constitution, including Red Flag laws. Did they take an oath to the Communist Manifesto or the U.S. Constitution? Try them for treason today.
China rates Bill Lee as “Friendly”. Again, try him for treason. We see what a treasonous bunch we have in the Biden Crime Family and how they are much more supportive of Chinese totalitariamism than to our freedoms we have under our Constitution. The Injustice Department has made a total mockery of the law. They persecute Christians and parents who dare stand up against their Marxism and gross sexual perversion training all the way down to kindergarten children!
The communists have chipped away at our 2nd Amendment for decades. They are counting on duplicitous governors like Bill Lee to advance their Agenda even more on August 21. Why are they not strengthening the efforts against fentanyl import and use and the hundreds of resulting deaths EACH DAY? Why aren’t they making hospitals safer? Hospitals mistakenly kill OVER 1,000,000 people PER YEAR! No, they have chosen to go after gun rights. . . AGAIN. The number of deaths from guns each year is minuscule compared to the two causes I mentioned. But, these communists want the guns because they know the Founding Fathers put the 2nd Amendment in place so the citizens could PREVENT TYRANNY IN GOVERNMENT, WHICH WE HAVE RIGHT NOW IF YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION AT ALL.
Governor Lee has been a massive disappointment.
I couldn’t bring myself to vote for him last year.
Bill Lee has been a coward from day 1. With RINO’s like Haslam and Corker in your ear what can go wrong.
Lee’s failure to axe the session give the Marxist the bullhorn to collude with the media to control the narrative.
