Tennessee U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) was appointed to serve on the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security as a new member for the 119th Congress.

The House Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Tennessee U.S. Representative Mark Green (R-TN-07), focuses on legislation and oversight related to the security of the nation.

“It is unacceptable that every state has become a border state over the last four years. This Congress, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the House Homeland Security Committee and to carry out President Trump’s agenda to put the safety of Americans first,” Ogles said in a statement.

“From combating human trafficking to keeping dangerous drugs from entering our communities, we have much work to do. I look forward to serving alongside my fellow Tennessean, Chairman Green, as we fulfill this commitment to the American people,” Ogles added.

Ogles is one of five new members to join the committee in the 119th Congress. The other new members include U.S. Representatives Sheri Biggs (R-SC-03), Gabe Evans (R-CO-08), Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA-07), and Brad Knott (R-NC-13).

Chairman Green said the Homeland Security Committee will work to “fight to secure our borders, combat terrorism on U.S. soil, bolster our cyber defenses, promote our nation’s maritime security, and ensure the resiliency of our communities—all while restoring government accountability” during the 119th Congress.

“As the Committee organizes for the 119th Congress, we are prepared to ensure the Department of Homeland Security succeeds in its no-fail mission and fulfills the mandate given by the American people to restore public safety,” Green said.

Ogles’ new membership on the Homeland Security Committee also comes as he was named a returning member of the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services where he will serve on the subcommittees on Capital Markets; National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions; and Oversight and Investigations.
