Trump to Reverse Biden’s Push for Electric Vehicles, Regulations on Gas Stoves, Dishwashers, Shower Heads

White House officials on Monday told The Tennessee Star that President Donald Trump will issue executive orders aimed at reversing President Joe Biden’s the electric vehicle mandate, as well as the Democrat’s attempts to impose regulations on gas stoves, dishwashers, and shower heads, during his first hours as the 47th President of the United States.

The White House officials explained in the Monday press call related to the new president’s plans for day-one executive orders related to the economy that Trump will free the country “from the parochial interests of the past,” through “cutting red tape and regulations,” including on vehicles and household goods.

According to the officials, Trump will sign an executive order aimed at “unleashing America’s energy,” which “will include an end to the electric vehicle mandate,” fulfilling the president’s promise to allow consumers to freely choose between vehicles with traditional, internal combustion engines and electric vehicles.

In addition to mandating all federal vehicles be electric by 2027, the Biden administration attempted to raise fuel economy requirements that experts say would force automotive manufacturers to shift their production to electric vehicles.

Trump will also take action to reverse Biden-era regulations on consumer products, which the Trump official told members of the press will include “shower heads, gas stoves, and dishwashers.”

Regulators under the Obama-Biden administration curtailed the amount of water that can be used in household showers, and while Trump undid the change during his first term, the Biden-Harris administration reinstated the regulations in 2021.

Biden’s administration additionally raised efficiency standards for dishwashers, and while his administration claimed citizens would save money on the appliances, experts said the regulations drove up prices and decreased longevity for the devices.

Regulators similarly aimed at gas stoves in 2022, when a study claimed the illnesses of 13 percent of those suffering from childhood asthma could be linked to gas stoves, contradicting previous research. Republicans in the U.S. House passed legislation protecting gas stoves the following year.

The White House officials also said the president plans to declare a national energy emergency, giving Trump new powers to increase energy production, with more orders planned to focus on opening access to natural resources found in Alaska.

Lowering the cost of energy, the officials explained, is key to Trump’s goal of lowering prices for American citizens. To that end, Trump also plans to release a memorandum on inflation, authorizing an “all of government approach” to lower the cost of everyday goods.
