State Representative Justin Pearson (D-Memphis) explained he is actively campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris because she “fought” for him and other controversially anti-gun members of the Tennessee House of Representatives during a visit to Nashville last year.

Both Pearson and Representative Justin Jones (D-Nashville) were expelled from the General Assembly for their role in an anti-gun riot at the Tennessee Capitol in the wake of the Covenant School shooting last year, while Representative Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville) avoided expulsion.

Vice President Kamala Harris described controversial State Representative Justin Jones (D-Nashville) as a prominent leader for young people during an interview with progressive social media publisher NowThis Impact released on Tuesday.

In the interview, Harris was asked by the liberal news organization to name five “ideal dinner guests,” and the vice president said Jones would have the fifth seat at a table largely seated with civil rights icons.

‘Tennessee Three’ Members Respond After Trio Loses Speaking Slot at DNC

Tennessee State Representatives Justin Jones (D-Nashville), Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville), and Justin Pearson (D-Memphis) were expected to speak at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday, likely with remarks about their experience pushing for gun control legislation in the Volunteer State.

The speech never happened, and a spokesman for Tennessee Democrats told The Tennessean on Thursday that they were no longer expected to speak.

Tennessee State Representatives Justin Pearson (D-Memphis), Justin Jones (D-Nashville), and Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville) are scheduled to speak at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday.

Jones, Pearson, and Johnson made national headlines last year after the trio commandeered the Tennessee House Floor to demand gun control three days after the March 27 shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville.

District 86 Special Election Will Feature Interim State Rep Justin Pearson in Contested Democratic Primary, Independent Challenger

After Thursday’s qualifying deadline, several candidates have made the cut to run in the District 86 special election, including two Democrats and one independent. One Republican picked up a petition on the day of the qualifying deadline but failed to file the 25 signatures needed to be on the ballot. The Memphis-based district has long been a Democratic mainstay.

Late State Representative Barbara Cooper (D-Memphis) held the seat for nearly 26 years before passing away just two weeks before last year’s general election. She was posthumously reelected by a margin of 46 percentage points.

Dates Sets for Special Elections in Tennessee State House Districts of Expelled Interim State Reps

State Representatives Justin Jones (D-Nashville) and Justin Pearson (D-Memphis) will have an opportunity to seek election victories in their respective districts after their expulsions from the State House earlier this month. Nashville Metro Council and Shelby County Commission both voted unanimously to appoint Jones and Pearson to serve as their own interim replacements in Districts 52 and 86.

These appointments are only temporary, as special elections must take place to decide who will serve the remainder of Jones’s and Pearson’s terms.

Gun control extremists March For Our Lives and Gen-Z For Change hit social media to again recruit their young soldiers following the March 27 mass murders of three children and three adult staff members at The Covenant School, a private Christian school in Nashville. Audrey Elizabeth Hale, a deranged 28-year-old who reportedly identified as a transgender male, stormed into the private school and mercilessly shot and killed her victims before police officers fatally shot Hale.
