A report from POD, the moving and storage company, says that three cities in Tennessee are among the top 20 in America where people are moving.
“We’re seeing more people move to the Southern Appalachian region, which includes states like North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama,” the report said. “Tennessee tied with Florida for the third most popular state for new moves.”

The number of people who used to live in Los Angeles County and Cook County in Illinois continues to plummet.
Los Angeles County posted the largest population decline of all counties in the United States in 2022, falling by 90,704 and continuing a downward trend. It lost nearly twice that amount (180,394) in 2021, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Vintage 2022 estimates released Thursday.

New census data reveals that Arizona has five of the fastest-growing 15 cities in the U.S.
The five areas are Queen Creek, Buckeye, Casa Grande, Maricopa City and Goodyear. While Phoenix was further down on the list, it was one of only two of the largest 10 cities in the country to gain residents.

Tennessee ranked third in the nation for growth in moves to the state in the year 2021 according to a press release by the moving company U-Haul. The ranking is based on the company’s yearly U-Haul Growth Index which analyzed the net gain of one-way entry to states for the year.

Arizona is one of the fastest growing states in the country, ranked No. 6 in 2021 by HomeSnacks. New data from the Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity reveals that the growth is taking place in red parts of Arizona, not blue strongholds like Tucson — which could mean Arizona is not trending blue.
“The growth is around Maricopa County,” Rep. David Schweikert (R-06-Ariz.) told The Arizona Sun Times. “Maricopa County, which leans Republican, already dominates the state. This will give it even more power.” Currently, 62% of the population lives there.

Texas and Florida are slated to gain congressional seats during the decennial redistricting process, while California and New York are set to each lose one, the U.S. Census Bureau announced Monday.
The U.S. Census Bureau released the decennial state population and congressional apportionment totals Monday, outlining how many districts each state will have for the next decade. The data also determines how many Electoral College votes each state will have through 2032, and allocates how federal money is distributed to each state for schools, roads and other public projects.
The release was originally scheduled for December, but faced delays due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Trump administration’s unsuccessful effort to exclude non-citizens from the count.

Illinois high school student athletes and their parents who are tired of COVID-19 delays in sports are taking matters into their own hands — some are protesting, while others are moving out of state to play elsewhere.
Student athletes, coaches and students’ parents rallied in the dozens in McCook on Sunday to demand fall sports to resume, ABC 7 reported. Only golf, cross country, girls’ tennis and girls’ swimming and diving are playing for now.

Tennessee weighed in as the Number Five Growth State, according data released by rental giant U-Haul. The top-five status represents another huge gain in ranking over the last three years of reporting. Of all the one-way U-Haul traffic in Tennessee, the statement reports that arriving trucks made for a whopping 50.3 percent – catapulting its ranking seven spots in one year. Tennessee came in at number 12 in 2016 and was number 34 in 2015. Jeff Porter, U-Haul Company of Nashville president said, “We have no state income tax, beautiful weather and Southern hospitality. Growth isn’t restricted to Nashville, either. We’re seeing job growth everywhere. Nashville has started to grow up rather than out. There are new condos and high-rises. The Gulch is an up-and-coming community downtown. The district has an industrial history but has become a hot spot for the younger generation.” The areas within Tennessee that saw the most “incoming” activity are: Maryville, Murfreesboro, Columbia, Lebanon, Athens, Clarksville, Oak Ridge and Brentwood paced Tennessee’s net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks. The company said that Kingsport, Collierville and Franklin were among other notable cities to post strong net gains.
