Tim Kaine and Pete Hegseth

U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) said on Sunday that he considered his questions regarding the personal character of Pete Hegseth, who President Donald Trump nominated to serve as Secretary of Defense, to be his best shot at persuading Republican senators against confirming the veteran and former Fox News host.

In an appearance on “Face the Nation,” Kaine said that Republicans in the Senate tend to shy away from presidential nominations who may seem unqualified, or who have serious moral failings, and pointing to the example of former Representative Matt Gaetz’s decision to withdraw his acceptance of Trump’s nomination for him to serve as Attorney General, said he decided to use such concerns against Hegseth.

Trump Tells DOD Nominee Pete Hegseth to ‘Keep Fighting’, But Readies Alternatives

Pete Hegseth

by Ben Whedon   President-elect Donald Trump has told Pete Hegseth, his nominee to lead the Pentagon, to continue pursuing support for his nomination, but is also reportedly planning other options should Hegseth fail to secure the votes to claim the job. “I spoke to the president elect this morning. He said, keep going, keep fighting,” Hegseth said, according to Politico. The former Fox News media figure has faced scrutiny amid his prospective confirmation over prior sexual misconduct allegations and his qualifications to lead the Department. Veteran groups have lined up behind Hegseth’s nomination, highlighting his record of support for that community. “The recent onslaught of attacks on his character are the last gasps of desperate and dying contrarians, hell bent on maintaining the pernicious status quo that is slowly choking out the warrior ethos in our military today,” wrote Vets for Freedom Co-Founder David Bellavia. But while Trump is rooting for Hegseth to secure the job, he is reportedly planning contingencies should it become apparent that he cannot win enough votes in the Senate. Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, a one-time rival to Trump for the party nomination, has emerged as a backup option for the president, according to multiple reports.…

Carol Swain with Pete Hegseth and Rick Santorum

NASHVILLE, Tennessee–About two hundred supporters of Nashville mayoral candidate Carol Swain donated more than $20,000 to her campaign on Monday at events with former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) and Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Pete Hegseth held at the Ray Stevens CabaRay Showroom, the new entertainment venue owned by and featuring Music City legend Ray Stevens. Monday’s haul increased the amount Swain’s campaign has raised in just three weeks to more than $60,000, further solidifying her position as the only serious challenger to Acting Mayor David Briley in the May 24 special mayoral election for Nashville/Davidson County.
