Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’ endorsement this week of Ron DeSantis for president a little more than two months before the Iowa caucuses could give the Florida governor a bit of a lift, but it very well could hurt the state GOP’s future prospects.

Former President Donald Trump, who leads DeSantis by nearly 30 percentage points in the latest Iowa poll, has clearly expressed his dissatisfaction with Reynolds’ rallying around DeSantis — especially after he accused Iowa’s popular governor of playing political footsie with DeSantis earlier this year.

The party’s sold-out Lincoln Dinner fundraiser drew more than 1,000 people and all but one of the contestants vying for the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nomination.

Iowa’s Republican Party is taking “aggressive” steps to keep “mean-spirited” Democrats from crashing next year’s GOP presidential caucuses, state Republican Party Chairman Jeff Kaufmann told The Iowa Star. 

Kaufmann, joining Iowa Star Bureau Chief M.D. Kittle last week on NewsTalk 1040 WHO, said the uncertainty surrounding the Democratic Party’s caucus future could open the door for mischief.

Republican Presidential candidate Nikki Haley is heading back to Iowa next week to host two town hall meetings and participate in a foreign policy event with U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA). 

The former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador under President Donald Trump announced a schedule that includes a town hall-style event at 6 pm. Wednesday, March 8, at the Thunderbowl in Council Bluffs.
