Poll: Trump Increases Lead over DeSantis in New Hampshire

Among likely New Hampshire primary voters, Former President Donald Trump leads Florida Governor Ron DeSantis 44% to 12% in a multi-candidate ballot. Trump has increased his lead by 5% since last month where he lead DeSantis 39% to 18%.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and South Carolina U.S. Senator Tim Scott are tied for third with 7% of the vote each. Sununu’s presence on the ballot is not siphoning votes away from DeSantis as some assumed. When Sununu is taken out of the equation in this months survey, DeSantis did not benefit. A majority of Sununu’s vote share went to Scott and Christie.

It’s Official: Miami Mayor Francis Suarez Announces Run for President

by Mary Lou Masters   Miami’s conservative Mayor Francis Suarez announced Thursday morning he’s seeking the Republican nomination for president in 2024, joining an increasingly growing GOP primary field. Suarez filed the paperwork to run for president with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) Wednesday. The 43rd Miami mayor’s announcement comes ahead of his official campaign launch speech Thursday evening at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute in Simi Valley, California. The mayor’s announcement makes him the third presidential candidate from Florida, along with his governor, Ron DeSantis, and former President Donald Trump. Suarez has the backing of a political action committee (PAC) SOS America, who has already begun fundraising for the mayor, and released a campaign-like advertisement video harping on his record in Miami for cutting taxes, decreasing crime and bolstering the business community. “America needs a leader ready to act — Francis Suarez will not back down,” the video said. “A father, a husband and a proud believer in American exceptionalism. With DeSantis Opposition, State Funding Highly Unlikely for New Rays Stadium

While the owners of the Tampa Bay Rays want a new stadium and a plan could be approved as soon as this fall, state funding will likely not be forthcoming due to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ policy against public funding of professional sports stadiums.

Team owner Stuart Sternberg has denied rumors that the team would leave St. Petersburg’s Tropicana Field, but team officials want a replacement for the domed stadium built in 1990 and home to the team since their debut in 1998. The team’s lease at Tropicana Field expires in 2027.

Poll: Trump Maintains Double-Digit Lead over DeSantis in Iowa

Former President Donald Trump has maintained a double-digit lead (39 percent to 24 percent) over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis among likely Iowa GOP Caucus voters, according to a new National Research Inc. poll commissioned by American Greatness.

Trump’s current 15-point lead over DeSantis is within the survey’s 4.38 percent margin of error of his previous 18-point lead conducted last month.

Obama-Appointed Federal Judge Who Has Criticized DeSantis Recuses Himself from Disney Case

A federal judge known for ruling against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recused himself Thursday from Disney’s lawsuit against the governor, according to a court filing.

Chief U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Florida Mark Walker, an Obama appointee, recused himself after discovering “a relative within the third degree of relationship” owns 30 shares in The Walt Disney Company, per the a court filing. Walker blocked DeSantis’ “Stop W.O.K.E. Act”  in November, calling it “positively dystopian,” and struck down parts of his election law as unconstitutional in March 2022, citing the state’s “horrendous history of racial discrimination in voting,” according to Politico.

Florida Continues to Emphasize Civics Education as National Test Scores Fall

Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed several bills over the past few years designed to improve the U.S. history and civics knowledge of Florida students.

Disney Scraps New $1 Billion Florida Project amid DeSantis Feud

The Walt Disney Company has canceled plans to build a $1 billion installation in Florida amid an ongoing legal and political fight with Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The project, known as the Lake Nona Town Center, included plans to build office space for the company near Orlando, Florida, and would have created upwards of 2,000 jobs with an average salary of $120,000 a year, according to the state’s Department of Economic Opportunity. Its cancellation was announced in an email to employees by Disney’s chairman of Parks and Resorts, Josh D’Amaro, on Thursday.

Among likely GOP primary voters in New Hampshire, former President Donald Trump holds a 21-point lead over Governor Ron DeSantis, 39%-18%. New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu is virtually tied with DeSantis for second place, garnering 17% of the vote.

Although Sununu is competing with DeSantis for the “not Trump” vote, among those who describe themselves as “very likely” voters, DeSantis leads Sununu by 6 percent, 19%-13%. Trump leads both men among these voters with 45%.

DeSantis Signs Bill Outlawing ‘Mutilation’ of Minors Through Transgender Surgeries

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Wednesday banning the “mutilation” of minors via sex-reassignment surgeries, according to remarks made at a press conference.

Senate Bill 245 passed the Sunshine State legislature earlier this month with significant majorities in both the House and the Senate. DeSantis announced during a press conference Wednesday that he had signed into law a number of pieces of legislation, including a ban on transgender surgeries, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in education and limits on sex, gender identity and sexual orientation lessons for kindergarten through eighth-grade students.
