US Border Patrol announced Tuesday that Juan Carlos Alvarez-Robles, a MS-13 gang member who entered the United State illegally (pictured above), was arrested by authorities in Toledo last week.
Alvarez-Robles had convictions spanning three decades for crimes that included “possession of a controlled substance, transporting/selling of narcotics, grand theft auto, as well as multiple accounts of theft and burglary.” Furthermore, the MS-13 gang member had been deported five times.
“This was a perfectly executed warrant resulting in the removal of a hardened criminal from our community without incident,” Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Alan Booth said. “I applaud all of the law enforcement professionals that worked on this case, resulting in making the city of Toledo a safer place.”
Recently, Ohio has arrested MS-13 gang members for crimes in the Buckeye State.
Last August, Erasmo Humberto Lima-Martinez pleaded guilty to murdering a 17-year-old boy who was part of a rival gang. In addition, the Department of Justice charged and arrested 29 alleged MS-13 gang members for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, drug trafficking and immigration related violations.
An estimated 10,000 MS-13 gang members reside in America. During the Trump presidency, he has made an effort to combat this gang. In the past, he has referred to MS-13 gang members as “animals” and called on Congress to fix immigration loopholes that hinder law enforcement from fully confronting this gang.
“I am calling on the Congress to finally close the deadly loopholes that have allowed MS-13, and other criminals, to break into our country,” the president said in 2018.
At the time of this comment, MS-13 took advantage of America’s open borders by hiding its members in migrant caravans that sought to enter the country illegally, according to the White House.
The Justice Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces made this Salvadorian based gang a top priority in 2017. After making this gang a top priority, law enforcement officials arrested 959 MS-13 members and deported another 1,332 gangsters in 2018.
This transnational gang operates in 40 states and Washington DC.
