Poll: Trump Up in Ohio, Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown Ties with Closest GOP Challenger

The left-wing think tank, polling firm, and political advocacy group Data for Progress recently published results of its poll revealing how likely voters in Ohio would vote in the 2024 presidential and Senate race.

Regarding the 2024 presidential election, the poll shows former President Donald Trump with an 8-point lead (51 percent-43 percent) over incumbent President Joe Biden in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup in the Buckeye State.

In the 2020 presidential election, Biden lost Ohio to Trump by the same margin of 8 points.

“With Sen. Joe Manchin’s announcement that he will not seek reelection in West Virginia, holding Ohio has become even more essential for Democrats’ hopes of keeping control of the Senate in 2024,” Data for Progress said in a press release.

However, the polling firm notes Biden may “still a path forward” in Ohio given the state’s recent passage of Statewide Issues 1 and 2 regarding abortion rights and marijuana legalization.

As for the 2024 Senate race, U.S. incumbent Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) either leads or ties with all four Republican challengers – State Senator Matt Dolan (R-Chagrin Falls), Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, Cleveland businessman Bernie Moreno, and Joel Mutchler – in head-to-head matchups.

Brown leads State Senator Dolan by one point (47 percent-46 percent), Moreno by three points (47 percent-44 percent), and Mutchler by five points (48 percent-43 percent).

In a head-to-head matchup with LaRose, Brown ties him at 46 percent.

Among the field of candidates in the GOP primary, LaRose leads the three other candidates with 30 percent of the vote; however, 44 percent remain undecided.

When voters were asked the three most important issues they want their senator to focus on, 35 percent said inflation, 29 percent said government corruption, 27 percent said immigration, and 24 percent said abortion rights.

Data for Progress polled 597 Ohio voters who will likely vote in the 2024 general election from October 31 to November 2.

And to what should be no one’s surprise, Trump backs the GOP candidate with the least amount of support and the least likely to win, Moreno. He picks Senate candidates like he picks his cabinets.
