Botched Drug Deal Leaves Three Dead in Buckhead Shootout

A drug deal gone bad left three dead and one hospitalized over the weekend in Buckhead, according to the Atlanta Police Department (APD).

On Saturday, December 9 at approximately 6:44 p.m., APD says Zone 2 officers responded to a report of multiple people shot at 3005 Peachtree Rd. NE, an area near a shopping district and apartment complex.

“Upon arriving on the scene, officers located four adult male victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. Responding medical personnel pronounced three victims deceased on the scene. One victim was alert, conscious, and breathing and transported to the hospital by ambulance. Investigators with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” APD wrote in a press release.

APD later revealed the incident began as a drug deal for marijuana which turned into a shootout, according to reports. All victims involved were male.

Bill White, the leader of a movement that looked to de-annex the Buckhead community from Atlanta and create a new city, commented on Saturday’s shooting, calling it a “disgrace.”

White went on to list Georgia lawmakers – including Governor Brian Kemp, Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones, and House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) – he branded as “the losers that support the outright corruption of the city of Atlanta.”

“They also say they support the police but they do not. They support Mayor Dickens degrading Police and Fire services and have allowed Atlanta to turn into a total cesspool of crime, murder and mayhem, and abysmal 911 response times,” White added.

Year to date, as of December 2, APD has responded to 3,276 crimes against persons and property in Zone 2, which is located in North Atlanta and covers such neighborhoods as Buckhead, West Midtown, Lenox Park, and Piedmont Heights.

Atlanta Police Department Crime Statistics

The most common crimes against property in Zone 2, according to an official APD report, is Theft From Motor Vehicle (1,338 incidents this year), Shoplifting (648 incidents this year), and Motor Vehicle Theft (453 incidents this year).

So far this year, APD has responded to seven rape cases, seven homicide cases, and 201 aggravated assault cases in Zone 2.
