Georgia U.S. Attorney Tapped to Advise Attorney General Garland

A U.S. attorney from Georgia has been appointed to the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys (AGAC), and will serve as an advisor to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“It’s a great honor to be selected for the AGAC,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan, who was selected for the position. “I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to partner with the attorney general and the leadership of the Department of Justice on issues affecting the Northern District of Georgia, the U.S. Attorney Office community, and our federal, state, and local stakeholders.”

Buchanan is currently the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.

“The AGAC was created in 1973 and advises the attorney general on matters of policy, procedure, and management impacting the Offices of the U.S. Attorneys and elevates the voices of U.S. Attorneys in Department of Justice policies,” according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Buchanan will join 12 other attorneys general as a member of the AGAC.

Garland, whose office has been at the center of controversy after labeling parent protestors at America’s schools “domestic terrorists,” said he looks forward to working with Buchanan.

“These U.S. attorneys will represent the views of dedicated federal prosecutors across the country and provide advice and insight into essential matters facing the department,” he said. “I look forward to working alongside them in carrying out the department’s core priorities of upholding the rule of law, keeping our country safe, and protecting civil rights.”

But whether the DOJ is “upholding the rule of law” has recently come into question.

Pro-abortion protestors have picketed outside the homes of conservative Supreme Court justices in both Maryland and Virginia in the wake of the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

According to a letter sent to Garland from Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R), such activity is illegal.

But the DOJ has refused to acknowledge the activity as illegal, as reported by The Star News Network.

Instead, a spokesperson for the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, which falls under the purview of the DOJ, simply acknowledged that it was aware of the ongoing and allegedly illegal behavior.
