The new head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), sworn into his new role Monday, is an open borders extremist and left-wing activist for causes like Black Lives Matter (BLM).
Former Tucson Police Chief Christopher Magnus is the new CBP, which former Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and immigration hardliner Tom Homan described as the “final nail in the coffin for immigration enforcement.”
“Worst selection ever,”Homan said. “That’s the final nail in the coffin for immigration enforcement at the border. Look, he doesn’t like the Border Patrol. He threatened to fire any police officer that worked for him in Tucson if they even assisted Border Patrol in any manner whatsoever. He refused to work with ICE.”
“He was stone cold against Trump policies,” Homan continued. “He doesn’t bring the secured border. He supports sanctuary cities. So, look. Worst pick ever. Border Patrol agent morale is already in the toilet, this just killed it. The morale is non-existent in Border Patrol. They are very upset.”
In 2019, during Magnus tenure as Tucson Police Chief, Proposition 205, which would have made Tucson a sanctuary city for illegal aliens, was roundly rejected by voters.
In a 2017 opinion piece published by The New York Times, Magnus bashed then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and President Donald J. Trump.
“The harsh anti-immigrant rhetoric and Mr. Sessions’s reckless policies ignore a basic reality known by most good cops and prosecutors,” Magnus said in the piece. “If people are afraid of the police, if they fear they may become separated from their families or harshly interrogated based on their immigration status, they won’t report crimes or come forward as witnesses.”
Magnus is a known left-winger who will likely continue to facilitate the Biden administration’s soft-on-borders approach.
“Magnus developed a reputation as a progressive police leader who focused on relationship-building between the police and community, implementing evidence-based best practices, promoting reform,” the White House said at the time of his appointment.
He is also a fan of the BLM movement.
In 2014, he was the police chief in Richmond, California. After the police killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri that year, Magnus joined BLM protestors and held a sign that said “#BlackLivesMatter.”
Darren Wilson, the Ferguson Police officer who shot Brown, was cleared of wrongdoing in the shooting after details emerged that Brown fought the officer and reached for his gun.
Notably, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) joined Senate Democrats in voting to confirm Magnus.
