Maury County School Superintendent Chris Marczak reportedly mismanaged his school-issued credit card, and he had to return it to the school system. This, according to The Columbia Daily Herald, which reported Marczak improperly and incorrectly filed expense reports. School system officials did not return The Tennessee Star’s repeated requests for comment Wednesday. The Daily Herald, however, provided in-depth information. “Records obtained by The Daily Herald reveal that of the 32 transactions charged since March to the credit card, 29 were filed incorrectly. The documented period included more than $2,800 in transactions for airline tickets, ride-hailing services, hotel rooms and purchases made at local restaurants in Maury County,” according to the paper. “The card, in possession of the superintendent and his assistant, was associated with more errors and improper documentation than any other card used by the county’s departments, according to the county finance department. In violation of the county’s policy, the superintendent and his office repeatedly used the card without obtaining purchase orders, turned in expense reports past deadline, used incorrect account codes associated with purchases and did not record all the transactions that occurred on the card. The reports also failed to include detailed receipts of the transactions.” The Daily Herald went…

Just two months in, former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford announced he suspended his 2020 presidential primary challenge to President Donald Trump. “I am suspending my race for the presidency because impeachment has made my goal of making the debt, deficit and spending issue a part of this presidential debate impossible right now,” Sanford said in a statement posted on Facebook Tuesday. “From Day 1, I was fully aware of how hard it would be to elevate these issues with a sitting president of my own party ignoring them. Impeachment noise has moved what was hard to hurulean [sic] as nearly everything in Republican Party politics is currently viewed through the prism of impeachment.” At his press conference announcing his decision, Sanford noted that “all the oxygen is leaving the room in meaningful debate” and politics has turned into a “red versus blue team.” Sanford emerged as a critic of Trump and his policies when he became president. His campaign focused on returning to “traditional” conservative values and focusing on America’s debt problem. “The purpose of this campaign is to spark a needed conversation as Republicans on what it means to be a Republican, and a larger national debate…

Read the full storyCommentary: Dems Fret as Poll Shows Trump Competitive in Battleground States
by Jeffery Rendall An old saying goes that bad news travels fast. When the message reaches its destination, things change quickly. It’s amazing to witness how attitudes often switch on a dime. One moment a huge crowd of football fans is euphoric with joy and the next they’re dead silent when the opposing team runs back a kickoff for a touchdown or returns an interception a hundred yards to seal a game. We all prepare for the ebb and flow of life yet it still shocks whenever something bad occurs. A knock at the door or ring of the phone sometimes makes all the difference. Change scares us. It’s equally true in politics, albeit the momentum switches are typically somewhat slower to materialize. For months Democrats have been buoyed by polls which showed their candidates competing well against (and in most cases soundly beating) President Donald Trump nationally – and especially in crucial states needed to prevail where it counts, in the Electoral College. But there are new and troubling signs the trend is slowing down, if not reversing. If you’re a Democrat – or someone who just can’t stand Trump – you should be afraid, very afraid. Niall…
