School Choice Helps Close Performance Gap for Low-Income Students, Study Finds

Cities with robust charter school programs have drastically lowered the performance gap between low-income students and their peers, a study published in October found.

The Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) found that student performance rose in every city with a majority of low-income students when 33% or more are enrolled in charter schools, according to the report. Non-white students make up a large percentage of those benefiting from school choice policies.

Senator Bill Hagerty on Friday said the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been “far too slow” in providing relief to those in East Tennessee who were in the path of Hurricane Helene last month.

Hagerty told News Channel 11 the federal agency “has been far too slow to step up to the plate,” and its response plagued with “serious” issues with management and staffing problems.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Friday unveiled a new advertisement targeting Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein in battleground states, including Pennsylvania, condemning the independent presidential candidate for her lack of regret over former President Donald Trump’s victory in 2016.

A DNC press released said the ad targeting Stein will broadcast in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and on national cable stations. Stein’s campaign submitted its signatures to qualify for ballot access in Pennsylvania in June.

Ohio Labor Crisis Easing for Small Businesses

Despite slight easing, finding employees continues to be a major issue for small businesses in Ohio.

The National Federation of Independent Business showed in its September jobs report that 34% of small business owners nationally continue to report job openings they can’t fill.

That’s a better number than in previous months, but NFIB Ohio State Director Chris Ferruso thinks business owners are still working to end the year strong.

Protesters Allegedly Entered Pennsylvania GOP Headquarters, Cornered Female Volunteers Working on Trump Campaign

A county Republican Party in Philadelphia on Thursday stated that four protesters entered its headquarters, walked up its stairs to the part of the facility being used by the Trump campaign, then cornered two women who were volunteering for former President Donald Trump.

The intimidation reportedly occurred in Delaware County, part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area, at the Media, Pennsylvania headquarters of the Delaware County Republican Party (Delco GOP).
