Although the Pilgrims came in 1620 and held the First Thanksgiving shortly thereafter, the national holiday which we celebrate didn’t come into existence until 1863. But America was not without Thanksgiving celebrations in the intervening years. As the quotes below demonstrate, days of prayer, fasting, and thanksgiving became a frequent part of American life, particularly during the Revolutionary War.

This Thanksgiving, perhaps we would do well to go beyond our surface gratitude for things like “turkey,” “pie,” and “not having to wash the dishes,” and instead consider many of the benefits they included in their Thanksgiving lists.

Veterans Affairs to Offer ‘Green’ Burials as Part of Pilot Program at National Cemeteries

The agency said the program provides veterans with burial options that minimize environmental impact. The three national cemeteries participating are National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona; Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.

Tennesseans Expected to Travel in Record Numbers This Thanksgiving: Report

A record number of Tennesseans are expected to travel for this year’s Thanksgiving holiday, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).

AAA forecasts that more than 1.9 million Tennesseans will travel 50 miles or more for the holiday over the period of seven days (November 26-December 2) which would set an all-time high for Thanksgiving travel in the state.

More Republican Women Now Own Firearms Than Democrat Men, Poll Finds

More Republican women on average now own firearms than Democratic men, according to a Gallup poll released Thursday.

From 2019 to 2024, an estimated 33 percent of Republican women owned a firearm compared to only 29 percent of Democratic men, according to Gallup’s six-year groupings of ownership data. Compared to years 2013 to 2018, Republican women saw a 14-point spike in ownership.

The FBI’s Biden-Era Murder Estimates Are Far Below the Number of Homicides Recorded on Death Certificates

As the DOJ’s Bureau of Justice Statistics explains, “The United States uses two national data collection systems to track detailed information on homicides.” These consist of: death certificates collected by the states and compiled by the CDC. reports by local law enforcement agencies compiled by the states and aggregated by the FBI, which also generates estimates for agencies that don’t report. Death certificates have always provided broader and more accurate data than the FBI’s figures, but the gap between them has grown sharply under the Biden administration. This may indicate that local law enforcement agencies, states, and/or the FBI are undercounting murders. Furthermore, the Biden administration FBI inexplicably revised its pre-Biden murder data all the way back to 2003, elevating the counts in certain years by up to 7%. The FBI made these unprecedented alterations without so much as a footnote to inform the public. As a result of those factors and others, the gap between murders reported by the FBI and the number of homicides recorded on death certificates has grown from a low of 16 killings in 2003 to an average of 3,711 killings per year during Biden’s presidency:   Again, all of the figures above are homicides recorded on death certificates that are not reported as murders by Biden’s FBI.
