Michael Patrick Leahy, CEO and editor-in-chief of The Tennessee Star, explained how the lawfare against former President Donald Trump “accelerates” as his lead grows in 2024 presidential general election polls.
On Monday, the monthly Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll showed Trump with a 4-point lead over incumbent President Joe Biden (52 percent-48 percent) in a head-to-head matchup
Another poll released on Sunday by CNN also showed Trump with a 6-point lead over Biden in a head-to-head matchup (49 percent-43 percent).
“This is why the left is accelerating lawfare against Donald Trump. That’s the only thing they’ve got. It’s the only thing they have,” Leahy said on Monday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
In the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll, Trump’s lead over Biden grows to a 7-point difference when candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein are added to the mix.
In addition, the CNN poll shows Trump with a 9-point lead over Biden when RFK Jr., West, and Stein are added in.
RFK Jr. polled at 16 percent in the CNN poll and 12 percent in the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll.
Leahy said he believes the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll more accurately portrays “reality” when it comes to RFK Jr.’s lack of ballot access in a number of states.
“I want to make a point about these polls and about Robert F. Kennedy Jr. So the CNN poll shows, in a five way race, Kennedy at 16 [percent] and then West at four and Stein at three. it’s like with Ross Perot, right? Ross Perot with all of his billions, the first time around, he ended up at 19 percent, which was pretty, pretty strong. But a second time around, he ended up at 8 percent. And the amount of money that he spent, Perot did in 92 versus the amount of money Kennedy spent. It’s not even close. My point is when I look at this, Harvard Harris has Kennedy at 12 and West at two, Stein at one. I think that is probably closer to reality,” Leahy said.
