Tennessee J6er Ronald Colton McAbee Released After Pardon Wife Says Represents ‘Truth Prevailing in the Face of Adversity’

Tennessee January 6 defendant Ronald Colton McAbee was confirmed to be released from prison on Tuesday after he received a full and unconditional pardon by President Donald Trump, who completed his campaign promise to pardon or free all those charged with crimes following the civil unrest on January 6, 2021 on his first day back in the White House.

His wife Sarah McAbee, who is the director of the Stand in the Gap organization that provided support for the families of those arrested in the Biden administration’s January 6 dragnet, confirmed her husband’s release in a post to the social media platform X.

After 1,252 long, dark days of captivity, the walls of injustice finally crumbled and the chains that bound Colton were shattered, just as the clock struck 11:59pm on January 20th,” wrote Sarah McAbee.

She then confirmed her husband, a former deputy with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, “is now a free man, walking out with a full, unconditional pardon by President Trump. Promises were made, and were they kept!”

The Tennessee Star first interviewed Sarah McAbee in December 2023, when she described the impacts of the Biden administration’s pursuit of January 6 protesters on their family members, comparing it to survivor’s guilt.

“You feel guilty about being able to sleep with a pillow because they have no pillows. You feel guilty for being able to go to dinner, because they get fed rice and beans every night for dinner and a baloney sandwich every day for lunch,” said Sarah McAbee. “When they say that we’re doing time out here, we absolutely are.”

In a subsequent appearance on The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, she told Editor-in-Chief Michael Patrick Leahy that her husband did not receive a fair trial.

She told Leahy, “On the second day of deliberations, the prosecution thought they were going to lose. They sent back evidence into the deliberation room that was never admitted into trial.”

When the judge learned of this, Sarah McAbee revealed, “he said, ‘I’m going to bring the jury back in and ask them to unsee what they saw.’ And he did just that.”

Ronald Colton McAbee was sentenced last March to nearly six years in federal prison, prompting Sarah McAbee to declare the justice system “failed” her husband, and urge Americans to take political action.

“Let’s demand accountability from those in power. And let’s never forget that our actions today determine the future,” she wrote in a post to X. “Just remember while you’re praying for us, we are praying for you to have the strength and courage it takes to TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK.”

The news comes amid Trump’s pardon for Stewart Parks, who was already released from prison at the time of the president’s executive action, and drove from Tennessee to Pennsylvania on Monday night to demand the release of another January 6 prisoner who remained imprisoned despite receiving a pardon.
