Williamson County Board Meeting

Voters and candidates have expressed concerns over potential voter suppression tactics ahead of the March 4, 2025 Williamson County Republican Party Reorganization Convention, with reports suggesting such tactics are targeting the Williamson County Conservatives slate of candidates.

The candidates and voters in Williamson County have cited concerns about emails inaccurately informing voters they are not bona fide Republicans that were sent from the Williamson County Republican Party “Contests and Credentialing Committee,” which would make them ineligible to vote on Tuesday, with the Williamson County Conservatives slate noting their opponents appointed the committee.

‘Legacy Tokens’ Memo Suppressing Covenant Killer Manifesto Not DOJ Policy, but Guidance from Obscure Behavioral Analysis Unit

Nashville Police Chief John Drake

A review by The Tennessee Star of the original FBI materials containing the term “legacy tokens,” which the agency defined in 2018 as any item left by a mass killer to explain their actions, suggests the suppression of such materials is not a policy of the federal government, but instead is the informal guidance of one Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), one of a collection of groups nestled within the agency’s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC), which itself is part of the Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG).

So-called “legacy tokens” were the subject of the May 11, 2023 memo sent by the FBI’s CIRG to Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) Chief John Drake, “strongly” advising against the release of the writings left by Covenant School killer Audrey Elizabeth Hale, the biological female who identified as a transgender man when she killed six at the Christian school she once attended on March 27, 2023.

Trump’s Former DOJ Official Jeffrey Clark, Target of Election Lawfare, Appointed Regulation Czar

Jeff Clark

President Donald Trump has tapped his former DOJ official Jeffrey Clark as regulation czar in the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA). Clark was targeted by the Democrats’ lawfare for assisting Trump with handling the botched 2020 election, and unlike several other officials at the DOJ, did not turn on Trump during the tense time leading up to January 6, 2021. Clark will not need Senate confirmation for the position.

Rob Gasaway, a business consultant, academic, and legal reformer who mentored Clark in private practice and who has known him for 30 years, commended the forthcoming appointment. “In today’s confused, often diseased, legal profession, Jeff Clark’s rehabilitation and return to high public office stands as a beacon to hope for better times,” he told The Arizona Sun Times. “Today, one can dream more reasonably than yesterday that within our lifetimes the great problem of restoring constitutional morality will be tackled inside the legal profession, in the halls of legal academia, in the larger public mind — and perhaps even solved.”

Researchers Discover Arizona U.S. Sen. Ruben Gallego Benefited from ‘Smurfing’ Contributions

Ruben Gallego

Some election integrity researchers are expanding their investigation of politicians who benefitted from questionable “Smurfing” campaign contributions, and discovered that Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) received many of them. Smurfing refers to the practice of using straw donors to make campaign contributions, usually elderly and unemployed people who are unaware their identities are being used for money laundering. There are many contributions made under one name, sometimes thousands of them, and they are usually small amounts, often around $10 each, in order to escape detection.

Peter Bernegger, one of the key researchers who discovered the Smurfing phenomenon, posted on X on Tuesday, “Arizona @SenRubenGallego caught Smurfing, i.e. criminally laundering money into his campaign! Note that this is just the tip of the iceberg. This is a ‘quick’ data run of the top Smurfs found to have had their identities stolen by Gallego’s campaign. Smurfing found by Chris Gleason @immutablechrist Phillip Allison @TheTVConsPiracy , myself and others exposing Smurfing. This is another form of election fraud. We are running all 100 US Senators, Tom Cotton and Jon Ossoff already ran – see the tweets below.”

Alarmed by academia’s dominant ideological ethos of social justice activism – particularly the holy trinity of race, sex, and gender – more than two dozen dissident groups have emerged seeking to rebalance the culture at leading public and private universities across the country, including Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, UCLA, Williams, the University of North Carolina and the University of Virginia.

The lawsuit specifically targets a Feb. 14 memo released by the Department of Education (ED) threatening to revoke federal funding from schools that do not halt all racially discriminatory practices and programs. AFT, the country’s second-largest teachers union, and ASA claim the letter “misrepresents” the law surrounding schools’ ability to use race as a factor in decision making.

Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap Threatens Legal Action Against County Supervisors Over Taking More Control of Elections

Maricopa Recorder Justin Heap

New Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap published a news release on Monday demanding that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors (MCBOS) return their control over much of the elections process to him, or he would take legal action. The MCBOS transferred significant powers away from the recorder in 2019, due to a disappointing job performance by then-recorder Adrian Fontes. They grabbed even more powers from Heap last fall, and have mostly ignored his objections.

“With an election less than 90 days away,” Heap said, “the Supervisors’ unwillingness to address these concerns will force me to take legal action against the Board to restore this office’s full authority, and deliver the results voters elected me to achieve. If the Board is unwilling to have good faith discussions with the Recorder regarding our statutorily shared election duties, then perhaps it is time to return all election responsibilities to the Recorder’s Office — something I readily welcome.”

Illegal Gun Reporting Mandate Struck Down Again in Pima County

Chris King, Pima County

A judge struck down a law in Pima County last week which made it a crime to fail to report lost or stolen guns to law enforcement within two days or face $1,000 fines. This was the second time the law was passed and removed for conflicting with state law. Unlike most states, Arizona does not require those who purchase firearms to undergo a federal background check unless they purchase the firearm from a dealer with a Federal Firearms License. Since many Arizonans are concerned about privacy, they purchase guns from private parties instead to avoid getting on a government list.

Goldwater Institute (GI) lawyers sued the county last April over Ordinance 2024-2, representing Air Force veteran Chris King and the Pima County-based Arizona Citizens Defense League. GI issued a statement afterwards. “The new ordinance wasn’t just illegal — it took aim at the wrong people,” GI said. “Rather than target criminals who steal firearms, the requirement would have revictimized law-abiding gun owners who experience the loss or theft of a firearm. Some may not even realize they are victims until much later.”
