The House on Wednesday voted to hold billionaire Leon Black in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee, the Associated Press reported.
On social media, the House Oversight Committee said Black did not comply with  “lawful subpoenas and tried to hide behind litigation to avoid answering our questions about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.”
“The House approved by unanimous consent to hold him in contempt of Congress. No one is above the law,” it added.
Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia, who is on the oversight committee, said, “Leon Black gave Jeffrey Epstein $180 million, and he hasn’t complied with our subpoenas. He is a central figure in the Epstein investigation, and we will keep fighting for justice for the survivors.”
The Department of Justice must now mull whether to pursue a criminal prosecution. The Oversight Panel had sought his testimony as part of its investigation into the late Jeffrey Epstein.
Under the Biden administration, the DOJ secured the convictions of Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon, both of whom refused to testify before the House Jan. 6 Committee.
The pair both spent time in prison over the matter.
