U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported Alberto Ramirez-Diaz, a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala who records show was sentenced to eight years in a Tennessee prison. According to ICE, Ramirez-Diaz was convicted of second-degree child rape following his 2019 arrest.
Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) records show Ramirez-Diaz began an eight-year sentence on November 12, 2019, aligning with the date ICE said the Guatemalan national was arrested in Florida.
TDOC records state Ramirez-Diaz (pictured above) was convicted of rape, sentenced to eight years in prison, and deported upon the conclusion of his sentence.
When Ramirez-Diaz was sentenced in 2019, Tennessee required criminals convicted of this crime to serve 85 percent of their sentence, allowing up to 15 percent to be reduced through credits, which aligns with his September 7 deportation. Tennessee law has since been changed to require convicted rapists to complete 100 percent of their sentence.
“ICE’s mission is to protect the American public, and that includes taking appropriate enforcement action against illegal aliens charged with serious crimes,” ICE – Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans field office director Scott Ladwig said in a statement.
“We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to ensure individuals who pose a public safety threat are held accountable under both criminal and immigration law,” said Ladwig.
ICE explained that U.S. Border Patrol first apprehended Ramirez-Diaz on August 1, 2013.
Though Ramirez-Diaz was deported just six days later, ICE reported that he illegally entered on March 3, 2018, when he was issued a notice to appear and released into the interior of the country.
ICE also said the agency enrolled Ramirez-Diaz in its Alternatives to Detention program and provided him with a GPS monitor. He failed to report to immigration authorities and allegedly cut off the monitor, according to ICE.
A state report released in January found that Tennessee law enforcement recorded more than 11,000 arrests or convictions of illegal aliens last year. More recently, ICE said it arrested 120 illegal aliens during an operation at a Memphis nightclub in August.
ICE said earlier this month that cooperation with local and state law enforcement in Tennessee has resulted in more than 1,300 arrests of illegal aliens since President Donald Trump began his second term in the White House last year.
