All Star Panelist Dr. Carol Swain Weighs in on the Disbanding of the 1776 Commission and the Lack of Honest Journalism

Live from Music Row Thursday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. –  host Leahy welcomed all-star panelist, Dr. Carol Swain, to the studio.

Leahy: We are joined in studio by our good friend all-star panelist, Carol Swain. Good morning, Carol.

Swain: Good morning Michael. It’s a pleasure to be back.

Leahy: We missed you. And you Carol, you’ve been busy. You’ve been all over the place.

Swain: That would be true.

Leahy: Now you are now the former vice-chairman of the now-dissolved 1776 Commission. I saw the unifier in Chief President Joe Biden had a comment about the 1776 Commission. Which by the way a fabulous report and congratulations on that outstanding report.

Yes, Every Kid

Swain: Well thank you.

Leahy: He called it the counterfactual 1776 Commission.

Swain: Well, he got it confused with The 1619 Project. We know he has a problem, you know, and he got it confused. I would like to say that the 1776 Commission, we may not be working under the auspices of the U.S. government but we are very much still in business.

Leahy: That’s so great to hear because I mean I read that report. It was spectacular in restating the fundamental principles of the founding of our country and the all facts related to it.

Swain: Amen. And the report will be published in book form by I believe Encounter Books. And so we’re working now on that.

Leahy: Well I’m going to buy it but on one condition.

Swain: That I sign it.

Leahy: How did you know? Bring it in and we’ll have a signing ceremony. Carol Swain signing the 1776 Commission report. Carol, I’m looking at the world right now and in my view, we have a legal but illegitimate president who has no common sense. Is barely there. Is inconsistent. I call him, this is me, not you, for the far friends at the Department of Justice. This is me speaking. Not Carol. I call him schizo Joe. Schizophrenic in the sense that he calls for unity and then he says but all those 75 million people who voted for Donald Trump, they’re bad.

Swain: They are White supremacists.

Leahy: They are bad and they are evil and they are mean. Let me ask you this, are you a White supremacist?

Swain: Let me say this. My pastor the day of the inauguration did a very good little devotion about how we as Christian believers should live our lives. And so I don’t want to be like the political left. Joe Biden has been elected under those circumstances that we all know as president. And I respect the Office of the President so I’m not going to say “not my president.” But I’m very much aware of the election irregularities. And I think that the Senate has an opportunity to address that during the impeachment hearings. that’s what they should do. And with Joe Biden, I don’t think he read any of those executive orders. He’s clearly not read our report.

Leahy: He’s not there. He’s not all there.

Swain: And I feel sad that he has been used and abused but he is wrecking our country and he’s being driven by an atheistic Marxist agenda. And it’s so totalitarianism in the sense that they have redefined words. And so unity and you know, my new business is Unity Training Solutions,

Leahy: And you are going to be bringing unity wherever you go.

Swain: But the Democrats are now claiming the concept of unity and just like they redefined tolerance and equity and all of these words. Diversity. Whatever they do it’s meant to undermine the nation as we know it.

Leahy: Every single thing to do. And by the way, what is missing is any kind of common-sense. I heard a clip from John Kerry. John Forbes Kerry who’s now some climate czar or something. And his logic was we have to get rid of those 11,000 pipeline jobs to give them better jobs making solar panels. What a moron. (Chuckles) Jeez, does he believe that?

Swain: They are elites that are totally disconnected with average Americans. And the American public did not vote for Joe Biden and his agenda. And I am hoping that our senators will use this opportunity of impeachment to put forth some of that information that was not heard when the Capitol Hill riots took place. What happened that day was the last thing Donald Trump and conservatives wanted because I think that they had good information to put before the American people that would cause them to think.

Leahy: Well and of course this second impeachment of Trump for which he was deprived his due process rights. There were no hearings number one. America doesn’t believe in due process. Think about Kavanaugh and Judge Moore and all of these people. America does.

Swain: Yeah, but I’m talking about the leaders and the media.

Leahy: Don’t get me started on the dishonest media. We had a piece the other day. Every time somebody from the mainstream media sends us an inquiry. We keep getting these inquiries from from from Snopes or from News Guard. Then we got another inquiry from Newsy, which is owned by Scripts. And basically, they say we would like to have you do an interview on Zoom and we just want to know more about your business. Well, of course, they’re lying about that.

Swain: Right.

Leahy: What they’re trying to do is they’re trying to do, you know, when did you stop beating your wife?

Swain: And are you granting the interviews?

Leahy: No, we do emails back and forth.

Swain: So you can document it.

Leahy: So what happens is they write lies about us misrepresent distort everything. And then we do a story about their lies.

Swain: I do grant interviews to media that would be considered hostile. I think this Associated Press and interview with Collin Binkley and I thought he was fair.

Leahy: Was the story fair to you?

Swain: No, it was a story attacking the 1776 Commission. But I had not been quoted in it and so he included a quote from me and part of that quote was the quote “professional historians take themselves too seriously.” But I pointed out that that was our first report. We were a two-year commission. We had a lot of work to do. And so he pretty much did put that in there. And we were actually planning to fill some of the vacancies on the commission with a range of people. So we are not done as a commission. But we were eliminated. Killed in our infancy. (Laughter)

Leahy: That’s entirely what the Biden administration is doing. If there’s a stupid idea Joe Biden is going to issue an executive order to implement that stupid idea.

Swain: Well, I had another education reporter from upstate New York interview me and she was astonished because she had read the report about the attacks on it. But you know we chatted and I really felt like this was a good person. I have not seen what she wrote. Well, she did say that she was born in 1958 and she believed in journalism. (Laughs)

Leahy: Okay. Alright, so we’ll see.

Swain: Well, here’s the thing about it. For some of the journalists, their job is in jeopardy if they actually publish an article that’s fair to conservatives.

Leahy: Yeah, and now that’s a very good point I think is quite true from my interaction. From my interaction with these journalists from mainstream media, you can tell they’ve been given, here is the story we want you to write.

Swain: Right.

Leahy: And then we want you to interview these people and then get as many answers as you can. And then take one little answer and truncate it and put that in the story to support the headline that this is the headline is going to be written about the story.

Swain: I’ve had journalists confess to me that they were told to write a particular kind of thing. And they have apologized if what I said didn’t fit their agenda I didn’t get quoted. Like I’m an expert on white nationalism and white supremacy and because I’m not saying that Donald Trump and his supporters are white supremacists I have no value. Even though I wrote the seminal book on it.

Leahy: Yeah, you wrote the book on it. They don’t want to quote the book.

Swain: Right.

Leahy: Goodness gracious. Well, look, this is where we are Carol. And the good news is you are here today and we’re talking about ways that actual Americans who believe in our constitutional republic and the things they can do it over the next 206 weeks and six days of this dreadful administration. Carol, I see you smiling.
