Governor Bill Lee’s office commented favorably towards the idea of a special session in order to address issues relating to the 2024 Republican National Convention but as of press time refuses to comment on the idea of holding a special session of the Tennessee General Assembly in order to save the jobs of Tennessee National Guard soldiers who have refused the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Tennessee Star has reached out to Governor Lee’s office on multiple occasions on the issue of National Guard soldier firings and the idea of a special session. Governor Lee’s office refused comment at every inquiry.
Axios, a left-leaning news outlet, reported that Governor Bill Lee’s spokesperson Casey Black told them that “nothing is off the table,” in regard to whether or not they’d be interested in holding a special session to address the 2024 Republican National Convention in the wake of the withdrawal of Metro Nashville Council legislation approving a contract between the city and the Republican National Committee.
“We don’t believe small businesses should be denied a significant economic opportunity over political pettiness,” added Black.
Previously reported, a group of off-duty National Guard members and supporters were led by Captain Mickey Shelton and State Representative Jerry Sexton (R-Grainger) in delivering a letter to Governor Bill Lee’s office imploring him to take meaningful action to save the jobs of guardsmen who are about to be fired for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine after the “Guard Freedom” event that was held at Legislative Plaza midday on June 29.
Lee was absent from his office and after a few moments, Shelton and Sexton were able to present the letter to Ben Silverman, who is Lee’s personal aide.
Sexton asked Lee’s aide to inform the governor that several legislators have requested a special session be called in order to address the issue of the National Guard firings.
“On behalf of some of the legislators, we are asking him to consider a special session to look into this matter,” Sexton said.
If the jobs of the National Guard soldiers who refused the vaccine are to be saved, a special session of the Tennessee General Assembly could be necessary in order to address funding issues created by the firing of the members of the Tennessee National Guard who refused the Biden administration’s mandated vaccine.

Why is Bill Lee so weak?
It’s a shame that the Democrats in Tennessee choose to hurt the business people of both parties by fighting to keep the Republican National Convention from being held in Nashville. It will be a great financial shot of business.
This Tennessee taxpayer does NOT want to pay for a Special Session so that they can engage in hand wringing over the Republican National Convention. On top of that, would subsidies be involved?
I used to vote for Charles “lightfeather” Whitaker since he always ran for governor. Anything was better than a Dem or what the GOpe offered. The issue in TN is we have open primaries so in reality the party doesn’t select their candidate. The Democrats always crossover and vote for the squishiesst of GOPe candidates in the primary. Used to be the East TN GOpe mafia run by Lamar Alexander, then and now run by the Haslam mafia. Not sure how to get past this until the conservatives of the GOPe rise up.
We need to step out of the box and STOP voting R or D. They are two heads of the same snake and Lee is no different. We have several Independent candidates that would make a much better Governor than Lee. He has been a phony since day one and I could see right through him every time he spoke. He is part of the swamp. I have vetted and selected an Independent candidate and I will be voting for John Gentry. We just need to get out the paradigm that is destroying this country. Sad part is most voters still vote with the feet.

I couldn’t agree with you more, thank you.

What is keeping Franklin/Williamson County from hosting the convention?
As my wife and I discussed the other day….we believe people in power are being threatened to behave politically in a manner that is not in keeping with what you would expect based on their political standing. I wonder if this is one of these cases. By now, only someone who is completely clueless, or stands to (continue) make large sums of money, would be in favor of forced vaccinations.
When (not if) the SHTF politically and martial law breaks out, States will have to rely on their State and National Guards to defend their sovereignty.
